GoG.com adds Zork Nemesis to line up

The DRM-free PC gaming web site GoG.com has already added a number of games in Activision's Zork adventure game franchise. Today the site has yet another addition from the series, the 1996 released full motion video-based title Zork Nemesis.

Developed by Zombie Studios, the game has a much more serious tone than previous installments in the Zork series. Your player character has to enter the Forbidden Lands in order to find out what happened to four characters who have mysteriously disappeared. At the time the game had what was then considered to be advanced graphics that allowed for a full 360 degree view of a location. You can purchase and download Zork Nemesis now for $5.99.

Return to Zork added to GoG.com

A couple of weeks ago, the DRM-free PC game download service GoG.com added a bunch of the classic Zork text adventure games to its library of games. Now the site has move on to the next level and added the full motion video-based game Return to Zork to its line up.

First released back in 1993 by Activision, this game is a first person-based adventure game with tons of full motion video and Hollywood actors (Among its "stars" are Flash Gordon himself Sam J. Jones). The game itself has your character trying to stop a evil influence from destroying Zork's Valley of the Sparrows. You can purchase and download the game now for $5.99.

GoG.com adds Police Quest and Zork games

After several days of a "police line" at the GoG.com web site, the DRM-free PC game download service has taken it down and revealed its newest additions to its library. As many suspected, the site has added the classic Police Quest games to its line up. The games from the now defunct Sierra Online are now owned by Activision. You can get the first four games in the series in one bundle from GoG.com for just $9.99.

Also added to the GoG.com site today is a bundle that collects six classic text adventure games from the 1980s. The Zork Anthology contains Zork I, Zork II, Zork III, Beyond Zork, Zork Zero, and Planetfall. That's a lot of gaming goodness in one small 9 MB download for $5.99.

Legends of Zork officially launches

Nope this isn't an April Fool's joke (we don't play that game here). The previously announced plans to relaunch the classic Zork adventure game franchise had now indeed gone live. The browser-based online adventure title Legends of Zork is being handled by UK-based Jolt Online under license from Zork's owners Activision.

The game itself harkens back, at least partially, to the original Zork games as it is played with a text interface with some cartoon illustrations. While the creators have said it's not an MMO title per se, there are some MMO elements including persistant characters (you can even play as a female) and some Player Vs Player elements.

Zork returning as browser based game

It was one of the biggest and most well known PC games of all time and now the Zork series is making a comeback of sorts. UK-based Jolt Online have announced they have plans to launch a browser-based game titled Legends of Zork under license from the game's current owners Activision.

Gameplay details are still a bit scarce (there's no release date, for example) but the game's teaser web site is now up with word that Legends of Zork is being designed as a persistent adventure game that casts the player as a "recently laid-off salesman and part-time loot-gatherer, as he explores the Great Underground Empire." The game is being called a casual MMO but there's no indication yet how or even if Legends of Zork will involve the player interacting with othe online players.
