Dead Meets Lead announced

Is the world ready for another game where the main goal is killing the undead spawn of evil? Newly revealed Sweden-based game developer Keldyn Interactive hopes so as they have just announced Dead Meets Lead, a newly announced top-down action shooter for the PC.

At least the setting for this game is a tad different than your typical zombie shooter. Instead of a modern day setting Dead Meets Lead is set in the 18th century where a military commander must rid an island of the undead, other monsters and the forces that started this mess in the first place. There's no word on when the game will be released although a gameplay trailer is planned for sometime later this year.

Exclusive: Zombie confirms Blacklight: Tango Down 2 in the works

Although the PC version of Blacklight Tango Down has just released, you can expect much more from the franchise. The $15 multiplayer shooter is apparently a solid sales hit on Xbox 360, and developer Zombie is already getting ready to expand the series. In a brief phone chat, Zombie CEO Mark Long told us that there are no plans to offer any downloadable content for Blacklight, aside from bug fix updates.

Instead, Long confirmed to Big Download that Zombie has already started production on Blacklight Tango Down 2. While details are slim at this point, Long said the sequel will feature improvements from the original game, including larger maps and controllable mech-like vehicles. At the moment Zombie is hoping to release Blacklight Tango Down 2 in the summer of 2011.

Left 4 Dead 2 The Passing released on PC; game on sale for $20 this weekend

Those that are 100% super amazing excited (it's a technical phrase, trust us) for The Passing will be glad to know that it has finally dropped on PC! Unlike the Xbox 360 version, the PC version is available for a whopping $0.00. The Passing includes a new game mode that randomizes game types each week, new weapons, a new campaign, new achievements and more. It's a whopping gig in size, so we suggest you start downloading right away! Oh and there's even a (sort of) cameo message from a character in a different zombie game.

To commemorate the release of The Passing, Valve has marked Left 4 Dead 2 down from the normal $30 price tag. Those wanting to get into some zombie killing mayhem can do so for a mere $20 this weekend. Considering that the original price point on release was $50, we can say that this is a stellar deal for those that have not picked up Left 4 Dead 2 yet. You can also play with the developers by adding certain tags revealed on the Left 4 Dead blog. Happy zombie hunting!

Saw II game announced; still could come to the PC

Last year Konami released Saw, the survival horror game that's based on the long running Saw horror movie franchise. The game was released for the PC exclusively via digital download. The first Saw game, developed by Zombie Studios, sold well enough that Konami decided to commission a sequel, Saw II, that will be released in the fall of 2010.

While Konami's official press release only mentioned Saw II as a PS3 and Xbox 360 game, Big Download has learned that the sequel could still be released for the PC as well. We spoke with John Williamson of Zombie today who told us that while nothing is definiate yet, Konami is still considering a PC release for the title. If they do decided to release Saw II for the PC it will be as a digital download title only like the first Saw game. In its press release announcing the sequel, Konami states that Saw II will have "all-new stomach-twisting traps and puzzles, more visceral combat, and an all-new storyline that takes place between the second and third movie."

New Blacklight: Tango Down details and screenshots revealed

Last month, developer Zombie Studios and publisher Ignition Entertainment announced their plans to release the downloadable multiplayer shooter Blacklight: Tango Down. Since the official announcement the publisher has sent over some new screenshots and info about the game. Since the game is set in the near-future players will get to use some exotic weapons such as "Digi-Grenades that distort the optics of enemies" and a "Hyper Reality Visor" that lets players see in different vision modes.

While you can play as a member of the ultra-elite military force Blacklight in the game you can also play as The Order who has a goal of trying to defeat a virus that is ravaging the world's population. Meanwhile a chat with Zombie's lead designer Jared Gerritzen reveals that the PC version won't have any dedicated server support. However he adds, " . . this is not a console-to-PC port. We've taken some major steps to make sure the PC experience is just as good -- if not better -- with a smoking PC."

Blacklight turns into downloadable first person shooter

Last year developer Zombie Studios announced their plans for Blacklight, a near-future themed first person shooter that they were also trying to develop as a movie and comic book series. Today publisher Iginition Entertainment revealed that they will be publishing Blacklight: Tango Down, a downloadable first person shooter from Zombie sometime this summer.

The game itself, which uses Unreal Engine 3, is still set in the near future but will be multiplayer oriented with character and weapon customization features.Players gain more experience as they play and as such they also gain more access to weapons and items along with new player abilities (akin to Modern Warfare 2). Will this game have enough to stand out from all the other games available in this crowded genre? We should find out later this year.

Left 4 Dead 2 Guide: Identifying New Threats

It's been a year since the incredibly addicting and entertaining zombie killfest Left 4 Dead was unleashed, and Valve has released its sequel to an excited consumer base. Left 4 Dead 2 introduces three new Special Infected, tweaks some of the original Infected, and introduces a new class: the Uncommon Infected. All in all, there are now a total of 14 different kinds of zombies! However, the Common Infected and three of the original five Special Infected have not changed at all from their original incarnations beyond minor cosmetic changes. If you want a general overview of the original cast of Infected, the Left 4 Dead identification guide has all you need.

Interview: Zombie's Mark Long chats more about Blacklight

You have read a lot about Blacklight already but Big Download decided to get even more info from Mark Long, the president of the game's developer at Zombie Studios.

Blacklight sounds like a game that's trying to mix sci-fi elements with more realistic shooters. How hard is it for you guys to keep that balance and make the game feel real while at the same time give it a kind of sci-fi "wow" factor?

We made a major design goal of the game and story to be "science fact", rather than science fiction. So we searched for far out weapons research, like in ultrasonic technology, and take it to its realistic limit - a non-lethal "ultrasonic launcher", for example. Which is cool because they're sound waves, so they can be bounced off of hard surfaces. You can bounce a shot off a wall to knock down an enemy you can't get a line of sight on. Or generate a sonic force field that slows down an enemy in an ambush.

Feature: Zombie Studios on developing Blacklight for games, film and comics

By John Gaudiosi

Independent videogame developer Zombie Studios, which has made PC games like America's Army: Special Forces, Shadow Ops and Delta Force: Task Force Dagger, has an answer to the videogame-to-film problem that has plagued movies from Doom to the recent Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Rather than creating a game and then shopping it around Hollywood, Zombie has created a new tactical first-person shooter PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game franchise and partnered with Union Entertainment and Fox Atomic to create a new movie and comic book series around the military action franchise, Blacklight.
