Eversion HD to be released on Steam

One of our favorite scary games, Eversion, is coming to the Steam platform. Originally a part of the Commonplace Book Competition at TIGsource, the developer went on to refine it considerably as Eversion HD. This second version had significantly better graphics and remixed tunes that were even more effective at sending chills down the player's spine. It was also only available if you donated on the developer's website, making it donationware. While you can still get the original competition version, the HD version is significantly scarier.

With a Steam release, the Eversion formula is getting two updates. The first is the inclusion of achievements, which are not all that important but nice for those that want to get achievements. The second is standard Steam community features such as in-game chat. Eversion will most likely go for $5 upon release. You can read our thoughts about the game (based upon the original competition entry) in the game's Freeware Friday article.

Freeware Friday: Eversion

Welcome to Freeware Friday, a weekly column showcasing excellent games that you can play free of charge!

There were quite a few impressive games to come out of the Commonplace Book competition at TIGSource. Experiences such as Verge or The Clatter of the Keys were all quite good, even if they weren't particularly scary. The one game that really captures the Lovecraftian style of horror out of the whole competition, however, is Eversion. Mixing disturbing imagery, excellent use of music, and a combination of puzzle and platformer gameplay, it is definitely the scariest game of the competition by far. You'll be hard pressed not to have shivers run up your spine while playing Eversion.
