Football Manager 2011 to be released on November 9 in US

The exciting world (well, exciting for some people) of pro soccer management simulations will get its latest version in just over a month. Publisher Sega just announced that Football Manager 2011 now has a solid release date of November 9 for the PC and Mac for US gamers. (UK gamers get access on November 5) As we mention earlier this month pre-orders for the game will be able to download 20 classic Sega Genesis games for free.

One of the interesting new feature additions for the new version are the links to other web sites. Players can video a match and upload it to YouTube and also post the game's achievements to their Twitter accounts. The game will support Steamworks achievements as well

BREAKING: Portal radio messages decoded into images

It's been less than 24 hours, and fans of Valve's first-person puzzle game Portal have already deciphered what the new achievement is and many of the radio messages. The achievement is to find the radio in each level and take it to an unknown spot, where it will spit out a transmission at you. Those familiar with ARGs - or Alternate Reality Games - will be instantly familiar with what Valve is doing, and the video above shows just what the radios are transmitting: images.

SSTV, otherwise known as slow-scan television, is a way for amateur radio operators to send images over the radio to be decoded by the recipient. These images often have some corruption, as they are transmitted at a much slower bandwidth than traditional images or TV. In most cases, these images are things like local scenes, but in Valve's case, it's hints at things in the Portal universe. Specifically, the images seem to be forming some kind of code. For what? We don't know. More as this develops, and you can track progress yourself via the Forum thread.

Update: The code in the images apparently leads to the Kirkland-based land-line (425) 822-5251. This number is modem that leads to a BBS.

Update 2: Do not call the phone number, as it ties up the connection and makes people unable to work on the ARG.

Assassin's Creed: Lineage trailer sets the story in motion

This trailer is for a series of short live action films called Assassin's Creed: Lineage, which will premiere on YouTube on October 27th. These films are created by combining live action Ubisoft's Hybride Technologies, the same special effects studio behind movies like Sin City. Assassin's Creed: Lineage takes place right before Assassin's Creed 2 starts and revolves around Ezio's father, Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, giving insight into the world players will be jumping into. On the set photos from the making of the films can be seen in the gallery.

Assassin's Creed 2 is scheduled to release on consoles in November and for the PC in 2010.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 footage leaked?

Last month UK based Free Radical Design announced that it was being put into bankruptcy and laying off about 75 percent of its team members. One of the projects that has been rumored to be in development was Star Wars Battlefront 3, a continuation of the multiplayer oriented action series from LucasArts.

Now a leaked ShakyCam trailer has hit YouTube that supposedly shows over 5 minutes of gameplay footage of Star Wars Battlefront 3. The footage, which supposedly comes from an alpha build of game shown during an internal meeting last November, is quite extensive (the video upload apparently happened 10 hours ago from a UK based resident).

There's both on-foot and vehicle gameplay shown in the trailer along with some story-based cut-scenes (heck there's even some Gungan and Ewok on-foot action). At the moment the footage appears to be the genuine article although we suspect it could be taken down at any moment. In the meantime rumors still are flying that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is still in development but at another UK studio, Rebellion.

Google makes moves into game industry

Search engine and ad giant Google is making more and more moves into the games industry with two separate announcements. One is for Adsense for Games which would allow web-based games to offer in-game ads via Google's technology. Most analysts see this move as a first step for Google to enter into more extensive in-game ads for retail PC and console titles. Adsense for Games is currently in beta testing.

The other move by Google comes from its Youtube division. The popular Flash video site will begin to start selling games with links via Amazon.com, according to a Reuters story. The idea is to expand Youtube's revenue beyond just ads on its site.
