This relatively straightforward in-game video for Call of Duty: World at War shows how the game will allow two-players to team up in a cooperative campaign.

Call of Duty: World at War footage to be unveiled Friday

We've already seen some screenshots of Treyarch's Call of Duty 5 -- err, Call of Duty: World at War. You might be wondering "where's the footage" though, right? You can't judge a game by a video, it's true, but you surely can get a better sense with a video than with still images.

Well, it turns out the wait will be a short one. GameTrailers TV -- which first airs on the Spike TV cable channel, and later appears at www.gametrailers.com -- will debut World at War footage during this Friday's episode. The show airs at 1:00 AM EST (so, for many people, we suppose it'll technically be Saturday, but whatev). Check it out if you have any interest.

Better yet, just wait for it to pop up online. Let's face it -- this is a World War II shooter. It's hard to get excited about those anymore, no matter how much "reinvention" is promised. The modern desert setting is getting just as tired, though, so ... what next?

CoD 5 screens get leaked

Several screens from Treyarch's Call of Duty 5 have found their way to the internet by a few German websites. This NeoGAF thread has them all in one place for your viewing ease. The screens give us our first glimpse of the World War II Pacific Theater setting in all of its jungle-y glory. While the WWII setting is a bit of a letdown after CoD4's much-appreciated move to the modern era, the Pacific Theater is at least a little interesting. We have a feeling that guys hacking around with machetes will be an ongoing theme in CoD5. Oh and don't forget the samurai swords, there's even a screen showing off some possible melee action.

One other thing we can easily derive from the screenshots is that there's going to be a big, nasty flamethrower featured in the game. Whether or not players will actually get to use the flame-gushing weapon is of course unknown. We only hope that for the sake of everyone involved there is some flamethrowing action coming our way.

Wolfenstein 3D turns 16 today

Wolfenstein 3D -- the groundbreaking game that brought the First Person Shooter genre into the light of day -- celebrates its sixteenth birthday today. It can legally drive a car, drop out of high school, and maybe even get married with parental consent now.

Wired celebrated the game's Sweet Sixteen with a brief summary of its history and some quotes about how revolutionary it was. "The key to the whole Wolfenstein thing is that its success -- which was massive -- paved the way for ... thousands of games that mimicked them, transforming the PC into a gaming system best known for FPS titles," said Wired blogger Earnest Cavalli. And it's true -- whether your favorite FPS is BioShock, Call of Duty 4, or even Portal, the genre as we know it today began with good ol' WOLF3D.EXE.

But if you want a reason to hate the masterpiece then think of it this way -- sick to death of World War II games? Wolfenstein 3D started this whole killing-Nazis-in-the-first-person-perspective spree! Yikes.
