Future World of Warcraft patch to remove support for PowerPC-based Macs

One of the big reasons behind the huge success of World of Warcraft is that Blizzard's hit MMO is that the game runs well on both high and low-end PC hardware. However with each expansion pack the overall system requirements have been raised. When the next expansion pack for the game, World of Warcraft Cataclysm, comes out later this year, a patch for the full game will be released that will eliminate support for whole range of PCs.

In a post on the game's official message boards, Blizzard has confirmed that just before the release of Cataclysm, "a patch will be released in which PowerPC processor based Macs will no longer be supported." It's likely this will affect some Mac players of the game but the great majority of Mac players likely play the title on Intel-based Mac machines from Apple.
