Dawn of War II Last Stand update released

As announced earlier this week the big free update for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II is now live and can be downloaded via Steam. Once again this update to Relic's sci-fi RTS game adds The Last Stand gameplay mode where a three-player team has to go up against wave after wave of increasingly more enemies that are more difficult to defeat.

In addition to the new mode there are two new multiplayer maps in this update (the 2 player map Quest's Heresy and the four player map Hydris Chasm). There are also numerous unit changes and balance issued addressed in the update along with lots of but fixes.

Dawn of War games 50 percent off via Steam

THQ's week long Steam sale continues today after 24 hour sales on Titan Quest games on Monday and Company of Heroes games on Tuesday. For the latest one day sale you can grab all of THQ's Warhammer 40,00: Dawn of War RTS games for 50 percent off their normal price.

That means the original Dawn of War Gold Edition is just $9.99, Dark Crusade is also just $9.99, Soulstorm is just $14.99, and the most recent game, Dawn of War II, is just $19.99. It's good timing considering that Dawn of War II should be getting a massive free update very soon. You can also get all the Dawn of War games in a complete pack for just $54.96. By the way, Steam's THQ Collector's Pack, which has all of the publisher's games on Steam, is also on sale for 10 percent off its normal price.

Dawn of War II Last Stand multiplayer update release is "imminent"

The fans of Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II have been waiting for a little while but soon they will be getting the next major free update to Relic's sci-fi RTS game. The previously revealed "Last Stand" update is supposedly close to release (the word they used was "imminent") so we are going to guess it will be made available to download sometime this week.

The entire change log for the update has been posted on the game's community forums. In addition to the new Last Stand multplayer mode (where teams of three go up against increasingly difficult waves of foes) there will be two new multiplayer maps and a host of game balance changes, tweaks and bug fixes. The video above has more info on the "Last Stand" mode.

Dawn of War II Chaos Rising concept artwork is all sorts of bad a**

Normally we don't post much in the way of concept artwork but we just had to show you this bit of just freakin' awesome work from the upcoming and just announced Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II Chaos Rising. Wow. You would think having high tech weapons would be cool enough but the Chaos Marines have devil dogs. Kind of an overkill but we love it.

Along with the above concept artwork, developer Relic and publisher THQ set over the first screenshots from the stand alone RTS expansion. They look pretty good too but we want to see devil dogs now. And massive axes too.

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising announced

As previously hinted, developer Relic and publisher THQ have just announced plans for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising. It's the first stand alone expansion to the sci-fi RTS game that was released last February. The new game is due out in spring 2010 and will introduce the Chaos Space Marines as the new playable side in the series.

Chaos Rising will continue the storyline in the original Dawn of War II and you can even use your squad's items, experience points and more to fight the Chaos Marines in the new single player campaign. The level cap has also been raised from 20 to 30 and there will be new multiplayer maps and new units for the three playable sides in the first Dawn of War II game.

Hints about upcoming Dawn of War II expansion pack?

Relic Entertainment has been generous with free updates to their sci-fi RTS game Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II. But are they prepping a full fledged commercial expansion? Relic News seems to think so. The long time fan site of all things Relic have been sent some interesting packages from publisher THQ.

The package contain a Games Workshop minature of a Chaos Space Marine, a big hint that Relic plans to introduce them into the game at some point. The package, as you can see above, has "MMX" on it which is likely not a reference to Intel's old MMX processor but the year "2010", a possible hint as to a release date.

More info on next Dawn of War II DLC

Earlier this week the first details were revealed about The Last Stand, an upcoming downloadable content expansion for Relic's RTS game Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II. While the DLC will be all about three players fighting off waves of enemies in combat, that's apparently not everything the download will have.

According to the Steam web site, The Last Stand will add another two multiplayer maps to the game's already extensive collection along with other bug fixes and gameplay balance changes. The download is scheduled for release sometime in October and will be a free download. There's no word yet if a beta release for The Last Stand is planned.

Dawn of War II: The Last Stand details revealed

Earlier this month we mentioned that the Penny Arcade Expo schedule showed a panel with Relic team members talking about an upcoming game mode for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II. Now the first details on that game mode, The Last Stand, have been revealed via a GameSpy preview article.

In short, The Last Stand will be made available as a free download and will have you and two other player controlled Heroes dealing with wave after wave of enemies. Naturally the goal is to keep leveling up your character and fight off the waves for as long as possible to get the highest score. There's no word yet on when The Last Stand will be released.

New game mode for Dawn of War II revealed in PAX schedule

Sometimes just looking at a schedule for a gaming convention can yield some news. In this case the just released schedule of events for September's Penny Arcade Expo has apparently revealed that a new gameplay mode for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II is in the works.

The schedule reveals that on Sunday, September 6, PAX will pay host to a panel where designers at developer Relic will discuss creating the upcoming game mode The Last Stand. As described in the schedule's notes, the mode "will expand the game to include cooperative based arcade gameplay." Relic just released a major free content update that added eight new multiplayer maps, a new observer mode and more to the game.
