SOE debuts free voice chat for EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies

Vivox has integrated their voice chat service, Station Voice, into Sony Online Entertainment's popular Star Wars Galaxies and EverQuest II, reports IGN. The service is currently available to all Galaxies and EverQuest II players at no additional charge, making Station Voice arguably the best solution to keep track of your friends in distant realms and galaxies far, far away.

Promoting versatility in addition to being absolutely free, Station Voice will allow gamers to chat to fellow guild members or random players with any combination of microphone and headset. Participation can be monitored via special controls to prevent group members from talking over one another, and perhaps best of all, Station Voice promises no significant increase in lag.

Not one to leave gamers out in the cold with only Taun-Taun guts for warmth, Vivox promises that Station Voice will be added to the original EverQuest sometime next month.

NCsoft games to add Vivox voice tech

On Tuesday NCsoft announced a strategic partnership with voice chat technology provider Vivox to add voice support across its library of titles. The partnership creates an NCsoft-branded communications portal between all games in the NCsoft library and will include a robust feature-set, including: voice mail and communication via regular phones and text messages.

"We will be able to offer our players a commanding set of communication tools that will simplify communications amongst the player base with far reaching options," said Peter Jarvis, vice president of operations for NCsoft North America. "We anticipate a successful integration and long-term relationship [with Vivox]."

No estimated date of implementation for the tech was announced.
