Dead Space 2 TV commercial shows moms hate it

Dead Space 2 is going to be very, very violent and gory. Most of you reading this know that the upcoming sequel to 2009's sci-fi survival horror games is not going to be for kids. As it turns out, publisher Electronic Arts wants to show that it is very aware of this fact by showing footage of the game to typical non-gaming moms.

At least we think that's what these moms are watching in a new TV commercial that popped up this weekend for the game. We don't actually see what they are seeing; we just see their reactions and hear their comments which, as you might imagine, are not complementary. EA is using this to basically say, "Hey, your mom won't like it which means it's going to be awesome!" This idea could backfire, however, if some mainstream news reporter makes an issue of perhaps having this "M" rated game appeal to kids via this TV spot.

Dead Space 2 trailer pits Isaac against the necromorphs

Isaac Clarke is having one hell of an awful time, and if Dead Space 2 is any indication, he's in for a lot worse. It's roughly two weeks away, but EA has released a launch trailer which shows off some gameplay and cinematic footage. With plenty of new NPCs, cool set pieces, and (of course) necromorphs to dismember violently, Dead Space 2 looks to be a worthy sequel. At least if this trailer is any indication! As far as content goes, though, it doesn't actually show us anything new or exciting, except perhaps a few people we haven't seen before.

Dead Space 2 trailer begins a new chapter for Isaac Clarke

Those that haven't played Dead Space, or read any of the Dead Space material, should be forewarned: this trailer is one massive spoiler. It follows the entire backstory of Dead Space, right down the the starting concept of a mining ship that finds something horrific. It's an excellent recap, though, and hits all the major points of the original backstory, the first game, and the events that happen between the first and the second game. If you want a little perspective into why you are so insane in Dead Space 2, this is a good trailer to get your bearings with.

Dead Space 2 trailer explores a derelict station

Dead Space 2 is rapidly shaping up to be one of our must-buy games of next year, and this newest trailer only cements it even further. While a few trailers have hinted at the station that Isaac will be spending his time on, none have truly tackled the issue, and this one aims to give us a good look at The Sprawl. It does a fairly good, if heavily cut and jittery, job at showing off the newly infested city. Frankly, it's not too scary, but the ridiculous amount of awesome action sequences more than makes up for this. Besides, the first game wasn't scary either!

Dead Space 2 demo not coming to PC

Dead Space 2 has had a bit of a rocky road for the PC platform. The sequel to the acclaimed 2008 sci-fi survival horror game from Electronic Arts was first announced as coming for the PC and then EA revealed that the PC port was not certain. A few month later EA finally gave PC owners a sign of relief as it confirmed that a PC port was coming after all.

Now EA has announced that a playable demo for Dead Space 2 is due for release on December 21 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. Unfortunately, Big Download has now confirmed with an EA PR rep that the demo will bypass the PC platform. This is basically the same decision that EA made when it didn't offer the pre-release demo for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit for PC owners. The full version of Dead Space 2 is still coming to the PC on January 25.

Dead Space 2 trailers explore the artistry of murder

Those looking to gain a better insight into the Dead Space 2 development process need not look any further. The art director for the upcoming titles has given some glimpses into the development process, with three videos outlining the processes and feelings behind Isaac's continued adventures. The first, above, talks about the multiplayer and how players interact with each other in the 4v4 competitive modes. The other two, after the break, discuss Isaac's characterization and the juxtaposition between horror and action gaming that the developers wanted to get across. All of the trailers are definitely important for anyone looking forward to Dead Space 2, and are a good watch regardless thanks to the gameplay footage.

Dead Space 2 trailer gets seriously creepy

Dead Space was not a game that fazed us in the slightest. Maybe it was due to our playthrough of Resident Evil 4 around the time it came out, or maybe our experience with sci-fi horror, but it just wasn't that scary. If this trailer for Dead Space 2 is any indication, though, the sequel is aiming to be far more unsettling. It's chock full of dark areas, unsettling people, glitches, sudden movements. The worst part, however, are the background vocals: the children's rhyme "Ring Around The Rosies." Don't watch if you are of nervous disposition.

Command and Conquer's next game under Visceral Games label

According to a recent interview at Gamasutra, the next game in the Command and Conquer RTS series will be made under the Visceral Games label of its publisher Electronic Arts. The article states that Visceral's general manager Nick Earl will be supervising the "action and strategy" game genres at EA under a new development structure in the EA Games section of the company. Other unnamed general managers will cover the MMO and the driving-first person shooter genre games for EA.

While Visceral Games is based in Redwood Shores, California the article states that this new structure will let the studio share resources with other EA game developer studios in Montreal, Shanghai, Melbourne, and Los Angeles where the Command and Conquer franchise has been based for the last several years. EA released Command and Conquer 4 earlier this year to poor critical and sales response and much of that game' development team either was laid off or departed the studio. Before C&C 4's release, EA announced in November 2009 that it had hired Might and Magic creator Jon Van Caneghem to lead a team to revamp the Command and Conquer franchise. In the new Gamasutra chat, Earl said only that the new C&C game is "pretty far out" although it's not clear if that means the game is still a long way from being released or, well, "far out, man."

Dead Space 2 PC gets Collector's Edition

More often than not when a multi-platform game gets a Collector's Edition, the PC port doesn't seem to get the same treatment as the console versions. That won't be the case with Dead Space 2. The PC version of the upcoming sci-fi survival horror sequel will be getting a $79.99 Collector's edition.

Inside the over-sized box, gamers will get the game from developer Visceral Games and publisher Electronic Arts along with some extras. One is a full sized replica of the game's Plasma Gun. No it doesn't work like it does in the game but it will light up really good. Look for the game's soundtrack, a lithograph and two exclusive in-game items (the Unitology Suit and the Force Gun). The Collector's Edition ships at the same time as the regular game on January 25.

Interview: We chat with the executive producer for Dead Space 2

It's time to get ready to deal with those crazy necromorphs in space once again. Electronic Arts and its internal developer Visceral Games are just a few months away from bringing us Dead Space 2. The sequel to the acclaimed 2008 sci-fi survival horror action game is due out in late January 2011 and will not just have a suspenseful and scary single player campaign but the sequel will also feature a 4 v 4 multplayer element with humans fighting against player controlled necromorph monsters.

Big Download got a chance to ask a few questions about the game to Dead Space 2's executive producer Steve Papoutsis as he goes over what we can expect to see and get scared by in the sequel.
