Nexon America's next major free-to-play MMO release is Vindictus. Earlier this summer the first closed beta test for the game was held but shut down late in August. This week Nexon announced that the second phase of beta testing will begin on September 15.

People who were picked for the first closed beta test will be able to join the second beta. They will also get two beta code that can be given to friends. Players in the second beta will also be able to keep their characters and save its progress when the Source Engine-powered Vindictus goes live later this year.

While Mabinogi is cutesy and appropriate for all ages, its prequel - Vindictus - is certainly not. This trailer reinforces the point, and it provides some more information on the skill of golem building to boot. One of the most intriguing elements seen in the video is the practice of creating a golem from physics parts present in the environment. That's definitely an interesting addition, especially for a free-to-play game. Still, it doesn't hurt to show some blood to display the maturity, and at the end of the trailer we get to see a massive polar bear rip an enemy apart.

The free-to-play game business continues to be a solid one for Nexon America. According to Gamasutra, the US subsidiary of the Korean-based Nexon reported that revenues from its various games generated 26 percent more revenue for its second quarter that ended on June 30. Specific revenue and profit numbers were not revealed.

This seems to continue a trend of increasing revenues for Nexon America as its games like the MMO Maple Story, the first person shooter Combat Arms and the recently launched Dungeon Fighter Online add new players. The next game that Nexon America plans to launch is the fantasy MMO Vindictus which should officially launch by the end of the year.

Less than four days now until StarCraft II is released. Will it live up to the hype? Fingers crossed:

• More rumors about the next Hitman game are showing up on the web.

Fiona will be one of the playable characters in the upcoming free-to-play action MMO, Vindictus. Although she keeps things pretty simple with a single-handed weapon and shield, she can be difficult to control and is recommended for moderately experienced players. Fiona excels and bashing the enemy and striking back with a devastating counterattack.

Lann is one of the playable heroes featured in the upcoming free-to-play action MMO, Vindictus. Sporting dual swords and fast moves to dodge attacks, even when knocked down, Lann definitely isn't a character to be underestimated.

One of the more impressive MMO games shown at E3 2010 last month was Vindictus, a action-based free to play title from the team at Nexon. Now the game's official web site has announced that sign ups for the game's upcoming closed beta are currently being taken at the site.

You have until July 19 to sign up for the beta and Nexon will let folks know who has been accepted on July 22. The game itself, which uses Valve's Source Engine, is being hyped up for its use of realistic destructible environments and more freedom in combat than in most other MMOs. The game is scheduled to officially launch by the end of 2010.

Mabinogi is one of the more popular free-to-play MMOs. However, it suffers from the stigma of appearing too childish or cartoonish. Nexon is aiming to correct this with Vindictus, a new free-to-play MMO. If this trailer is any indication, it will be quite dark - on par with Diablo 2 in terms of its air of morbidity - and significantly more "mature" than Mabinogi. Besides that, it's fairly standard. It has tough characters, tons of gore, and horrific monsters. In other words, the works for any dark fantasy game.

Vindictus probably has a much darker backstory in comparison to many of the other free-to-play online games Nexon offers, however there's a great deal of appeal to it. Maybe it's the idea of bringing salvation to a people by battling and steadily eradicating evil beasts has something to do with it.
