While Wheelman may turn out to be the last game published by Midway Games, the movie version of last March's action-driving title is now moving forward into production. Variety reports that John Singleton has been picked to direct the film adaptation with Vin Diesel set to reprise his game role of an undercover agent who takes on the guise of a getaway driver.

Paramount Pictures will handle the film's production which does not yet have a start date. Diesel became a movie box office draw again thanks to the huge opening of the film Fast and Furious last month. We hope the Wheelman movie turns out better than the game which got only mediocre reviews.

This launch trailer for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena provides a brief introduction to the game and the forces players will be up against. The game is available now in retail stores and via digital download portals like Direct2Drive.

The one featured above, entitled "Enemies of Riddick" gives a quick introduction to some of the major characters foolish enough to stand in Riddick's way. This developer diary for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena discusses the Dark Athena itself, a mercenary ship run by Captain Revas. Riddick is caught aboard the vessel and discovers the Ghost Drone program, which allows mercenaries to use modified human hosts to fight remotely. Its design takes on a dark and gritty look. Players will have a chance to run through the dangerous corridors of The Dark Athena when the game releases next month.

We have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Vin Diesel. The actor has made some really poor movie role choices (Babylon AD anyone?) but he clearly loves games. He's got two games due out in the next few weeks from his production company Tigon Studios. One is Wheelman, the Midway produced action-driving game that has just gone gold and will ship to stores on March 24. The other is The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena with Starbreeze developing and Atari publishing in early April.

But according to a article at Destructoid, those project pale in comparison to what Diesel wants to do next: an MMO title called Barca BC that will have the player live the life of a Carthaginian soldier in 200 BC fighting alongside Hannibal in the Punic Wars. Diesel knows it takes a long time to develop an MMO game (he estimates that it could be another four years to make the game a reality) but he insists, " . . . it is something that is something very high on my priority list of games we're working on." We believe you, Vin.

Mark Thompson, Lead Mission Designer for Wheelman, walks players through a mission type called "Recover the Documents," where players will be able to ride on motorcycles all across the city into otherwise inaccessible areas like the subway. The ultimate goal is to avoid collisions and attacking foes to steal some documents. There's plenty of mayhem and destruction to cause along the way.

This gameplay trailer for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena takes viewers out into space, where he blasts away enemies and leaves them to float away. The woman talking into Riddick's headset is Captain Revas, voiced by Michelle Forbes, who also voiced Dr. Judith Mossman in Half-Life 2. The game is expected to release for consoles and the PC in April. Be aware that this trailer has some mature language in it.
