Steam updates a number of games with bug fixes

It's been a little while since we have posted up news of automatic patches of games via Steam so consider this a catch-up as a number of PC game titles that offered up patches via Valve's download service. One of the biggest is for Supreme Commander 2. Gas Powered Games' latest RTS game updated earlier this week with a big change to its economy. Before the patch you patch for units and structures when they were ordered. This new update makes you spend for units when they actually start construction. There are also a number of other changes and bug fixes in the patch.

Other PC games that have gotten bug updates via Steam include R.U.S.E., Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike Source, a truly massive patch for Victoria 2, Garry's Mod, X3 Terran Conflict, Left 4 Dead 2, Nation Red, DogFighter, and Sol Survivor.

This Week In PC Games: August 9-15

Last week was barren as far as new PC games were concerned but this week we have a few new titles that are expected to come out via download. In addition to the titles listed below you can expect the latest Dragon Age Origins DLC, Golems of Amgarrak, to be made available for download on Tuesday.

Victoria 2 - Paradox Interactive's latest internally developed historical PC strategy game is set for release via download and retail stores this Friday. The sequel lets players turn into their own version of Queen Victoria (metaphorically speaking) as they try to expand their European nation into a vast empire in the 19th century.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - August 3

It was a fairly slow day for news aside from the surprise Torchlight II announcement. But as we have hinted before it's the calm before the storm begins.

Victoria 2 goes gold; aims for August 13 release

Paradox Interactive's latest internally developed historical strategy game is now ready for prime time. The publisher announced today that Victoria 2 has "gone gold" and will be released via download and in retail stores on August 13. The game itself is set during the 19th century where players will guide their nations from small monarchies to a massive world empire by the beginning of the 20th century as England did.

Victoria 2 is fairly infamous by the fact that Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester was against having the sequel made but stated for the record that, "I have promised the dev team (and checked with my family) that I am shaving my head if this project ever sees profit ...". So for those of you who love to see people eat, or in this case shave, their words this is the game to buy.

E3 2010: Paradox Interactive announces its E3 game titles

Hard to believe but we are just a month and a half away from the official start of E3 2010. With the dates of the show getting closer and closer, publishers are starting to announced just what games they will be showing at this year's expo. One of them is Paradox Interactive who will be bringing four upcoming titles to the event.

Among the games they will be showing is the 19th century historical strategy game Victoria 2, the strategy-sim title Commander: Conquest of the Americas, the RTS game Lionheart: Kings' Crusade and the simulation title Ship Simulator Extremes. Of course it stands to reason that the publisher might have some surprise games and announcements they are waiting to spring on us when E3 starts.

Victoria 2 trailer sets out to conquer the world

In Victoria 2, players will have a chance to take the role of a 19th century monarch and guide the country through the colonial era. The game will feature multiple levels of strategy that range from managing a military to developing new technologies, spanning from 1835 to the onset of World War II. Continue after the jump to watch an interview with game producer Johan Andersson, who goes into detail about the game.

"Victoria 2 is a grand strategy game played during the colonial era of the 19th century, where the player takes control of a country, guiding it through industrialisation, political reforms, military conquest and colonisation. Experience an in-depth political simulation where every action you take will have various consequences over all the world. The population will react to your decisions based on their political awareness, social class, as well as their willingness to accept or revolt against their government."

Paradox CEO wants to lose his hair over sales of Victoria 2

One of the many new game announcements this week from Paradox Interactive was the reveal of their upcoming historical strategy game sequel Victoria 2. Now Paradox has had huge success with such games in the past so green-lighting this sequel would seem to be a no-brainer.

That's not what Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester seems to think, however. In a post on their official message board he states, "...it is no secret I voted for another project from the Paradox dev team." In fact he doesn't believe Victoria 2 will be profitable. But it case it does turn a profit, he states, "I have promised the dev team (and checked with my family) that I am shaving my head if this project ever sees profit. AND post pictures of it here in the forum." So buy this game and see a guy shave his head; sounds like a bargain to us.

Victoria 2 announced

With Hearts of Iron III now released, you may still be wanting some more good old fashioned historical strategy gaming to be a part of your life. Well, Paradox Interactive has you covered with the new announcement of Victoria 2, the sequel to their 2003 19th century based strategy game.

In a post on the Paradox Interactive message board, the dev team have also released a mock-up of the game's interface (seen above). You can guide over 200 countries in the game from 1835 to the beginnings of World War II. In fact you might be able to import a save game from Victoria 2 into Hearts of Iron III. The post has a large bullet point list of features but there's no word on a release date yet, although sometime in 2010 would be a good guess.
