This Week In PC Games: January 10-16

This week the PC gaming buying year gets its first major AAA title with a long awaited MMO title. We also get a RPG-RTS expansion pack that been years in the making (no lie) and an European imported action-adventure game.

DC Universe Online - Developer Sony Online, which already has a ton of MMO game experience, launched its latest subscription-based game. This time the setting is the vast DC Comics super hero setting where players will be able to create their own original super heroes and super villains and ally themselves with legendary characters like Superman, Batman, Joker and Lex Luthor.

Venetica coming to the US in January via Atari

Earlier this month we reported that the fantasy action-RPG Venetica was listed on the ESRB web site, indicating that the game, released last year in Europe, was finally coming to the US. Today publisher Atari officially confirmed that it would bring the game to North America with a release for sometime in January.

Developed by Deck 13, the game has the player taking on the role of Scarlett, a woman who must explore the streets and many canals of Venice during the 16th century. She's out to take on an evil necromancer and its minions with a number of different weapons.

Rumor: Venetica coming to the US?

Over a year ago, developer Deck13 and publisher dtp Entertainment relesed Venetica in Europe. The action-RPG game looks like it will be making its US debut soon-ish. A listing on the ESRB web site shows the game as coming to our part of the world for the PC and other platforms via publisher Evolved Games.

What is Venetica about? Set in the 16th century, the game has you controlling the character of Scarlett, a woman who finds out she is the daughter of Death (yes, Death is a physical being in this game world). She has to stop the evil plans of Victor, a man who was formerly Death and who is now trying to take over the world via dark magic arts and creatures.

Venetica announced

Venetica, an RPG set in 16 century Venice, has been announced by publisher dtp entertainment AG. Developed by Deck 13 Interactive, the player assumes the role of Death's daughter, a mortal named Scarlett who prefers to be called Corpus.

I guess if you're Death's daughter, you do need an intimating, fear-inspiring name.

Scarlett -- sorry, Corpus -- is pitted against a second Death who uses magic to attack Corpus's father. Corpus must make use of her own magical powers to protect her father.

Venetica will be available in 2009 on PC and Xbox 360.
