Big Downloads: May 31 - June 6, 2008

It's Friday night! The work week has come to an end, and some of us will finally have the time to get some gaming done over the weekend. To start you off on your own period of relaxation, we have the five hottest downloads of the past week right here! We hope you enjoy them.

Predictably, the biggest of them all has been the new Call of Duty 4 patch and map pack. But if first person shooters aren't your thing, there are plenty of alternatives. Have a great weekend, dear readers!

Call of Duty 4 1.6 Patch with Variety Map Pack
Call of Duty 4's 1.6 patch includes fixes, new server browser features, and most importantly, four new multiplayer maps!

Spore Tribe Phase Trailer
This new Spore trailer contains footage of the RTS-like tribe phase of gameplay, and features commentary by two (very young looking) developers.

Devil May Cry 4 Demo
The latest entry in a classic, Japanese-developed series of games that stylishly reimagine the beat-em-up genre.

Iron Man 1.01 Patch
This patch for the superhero movie adaptation (which features voice acting by Robert Downey, Jr.) fixes bugs and expands gamepad support.

Street Fighter IV Gameplay Trailer
Oldschool is newschool in this four-minute-long, 2.5D hand-to-hand combat extravaganza!

Call of Duty 4 gets 1.6 patch
The free 1.6 patch for the PC version of Call of Duty 4 has just been released and it includes the Variety Map Pack.

Bruce Willis in talks to portray Kane in Kane & Lynch film
According to Variety, Bruce Willis has been attached to the Hollywood movie adaptation of Eidos Interactive's video game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. He's been selected to play Kane. The studio (Lionsgate) is still looking for someone to fill the role of Lynch.

John Carmack talks about Quake Live (and Crysis?)
It's been a while since we have heard anything about the development of Quake Live, the upcoming free web-based version of id Software's first person shooter Quake III Arena. PC Gamer (via GamesRadar) managed to chat with id's master programmer himself, John Carmack, about the game.

Final Battlefield 2142 patch adds new levels and more
Battlefield 2142 didn't quite get the critical acclaim nor the sales of some of the other games in the multiplayer shooter series but the sci-fi themed game from developer Digital Illusions and publisher Electronic Arts kept its support for the game for a long time. Now with the development team moving onto new projects, the final patch for the game has been released and can be grabbed right here at Big Download.

Call of Duty 4 bonus maps finally coming to PC June 5th
Two months ago, PS3 and 360 gamers were offered a map pack for Call of Duty 4 called the Variety Map Pack. For reasons escaping human understanding, said pack was not available on the PC -- the platform on which Call of Duty originally made a name for itself.

Plans for Frontlines: Fuel of War downloadable maps revealed
THQ developer Kaos Studios released their first title, the near-future first person shooter, Frontlines: Fuel of War, last February. While the developer has released a number of patches to the game since then, Kaos is in the middle of preparing their first major update (1.1.0) that will add new features such as Punkbuster anti-cheating support, a new version of the game's server browser and more.

More info than you needed about Red Alert 3's Soviet bulldog unit
Electronic Arts updated the official Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 website with a robust profile of the bullfrog, a Soviet anti-air unit. The page features a brief clip of the unit in action, as well. This unit was also featured prominently in the developer walkthrough video we reported on yesterday.

Dracula: Origin demo aims to scare you
One of the most famous fictional characters ever created gets interpreted in a new adventure game. Dracula: Origin tries to give its own interpretation of the beginnings of the most well known vampire of all based, of course, on Bram Stoker's original novel. The game, developed by Frogware, has already been released by The Adventure Company but you can now download a taste of the game right here at Big Download.
