World of Darkness MMO gives up (a little) more info

For a while now CCP Games has been hinting about its plans for its next big MMO World of Darkness. Based on White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade pen-and-paper RPG, CCP Games announced their plans for World of Darkness way back in 2006 when CCP bought out White Wolf. Since then, however, little info on the game has been officially announced.

This weekend, at a Vampire: The Masquerade convention called The Grand Masquerade in New Orleans, a little more info on the game was revealed, along with a (very adult) video that shows some concept art. As reported by the fan site the Ardwulf's Lair reports that the game is currently targeted for a 2012 release date and will have some "player politics and social interaction" involved in the game design. Direct2Drive's end-of-summer sales event continues day as the PC game download site offers up two more games that will have their prices cut from now until 3 pm Eastern time on Friday. The games on sale today both come from publisher Activision. One of them is Gun, the Wild West-themed action game. The other is Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, the horror-themed RPG. Both games are now priced at $9.95 each, a 50 percent cut from their normal price.

Don't forget that Direct2Drive also has a separate sixth anniversary sale where a number of games are now priced at just $6 until this coming Wednesday.

Update: We just got an email from Direct2Drive's PR contact announcing that if folks put in the code PAX at checkout they will get $5 off any purchase of $15 or mode. The code can be used an unlimited among of times until the end of September

Boot Disk: Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

Some RPGs, like Planescape Torment, are intense, story-driven affairs that rely on drawing the player into a network of intrigue and complicated choices. Others, like Diablo, are fast-paced action with minimal story that causes uncontrollable addiction to the increase of stats and gathering of "phat lewts". Then there's Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption (hereafter referred to simply as Vampire Redemption or Redemption). It mixes fast-paced Diablo-esque combat with a heavy focus on story to craft a dark gothic-punk world of betrayal and mystery. Since it was recently re-released on GoG.com, just about anyone can experience the first (and arguably best) World of Darkness game to ever be released.

GoG.com adds first Vampire: The Masquerade game to line-up

Last week, the GoG.com web site began to add classic PC games to its library that are currently owned by Activision. Today they add another game from the publisher to their line-up. It's Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption, the 2000 released RPG from developer Nihilistic Software. One of the game's more unique features is the ability in multiplayer for one gamer to be a kind of Game Master as he or she guides and inflences the other players in their quests.

Also added to the game's library is Dark Fall 2: Lights Out, a 2004 mystery adventure from XXy Productions. Both games can be bought and downloaded for $5.99 each.

Direct2Drive has even more PC game sales today

Looks like Direct2Drive is keeping things interesting this weekend. The PC game download site continues their 24 Days of Christmas promotion with a special bundle of EA's Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 combined with the stand alone expansion Red Alert 3 Uprising. From now until 1 pm Eastern Time Saturday you can get the bundle for just $19.95. That's a whopping $30 off the bundle's normal price.

But that's not all. Direct2Drive has a couple of older games on sale as well, including Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines for just $9.95 for one day only and the RTS title Empire Earth III for a mere $4.95.

Steam puts Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines on sale this weekend

We had a feeling that Valve would put a horror game up on sale on Steam for its regular weekend cut backs in prices and we were not disappointed. For this weekend only (including this Halloween day) the price of the first person action RPG Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has been cut 50 percent to just $9.99.

The title was the third and final game from the now defunct Troika Games (formed by former members of the original Fallout team) and was the first third party title to use Valve's Source engine (the game actually shipped the day after Half-Life 2 in 2004). While the game got terrific reviews the game's publisher Activision did little to no marketing and press for Bloodlines and its poor sales caused Troika to shut down. Fans of the game, however, have released a ton of unofficial patches to the game ever since.
