Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island coming soon to US retail stores?

Last year, Telltale Games, made up in part of former LucasArts adventure game team members, released its five part revival of the classic Monkey Island series. Oddly enough another developer made up of former LucasArts team members, Autumn Moon Entertainment, released its own adventure game in 2009, Ghost Pirates of Voojo Island.

So why haven't you heard about this game? Because it was released in Germany, where the PC adventure game industry is still pretty strong. It was also released in the UK in February 2010. However the GameStop web site has posted up word that ValuSoft has plans to release the game to retail stores in the US on August 30.

The game itself has three main characters out to stop a demon god from coming back to life. The kicker is that not only do each of the main characters have their own special skills, they can also turn into ghosts which allows them to wall through walls, among other things, in the game. We plan to contact Autumn Moon to get more info on the title's US release.

Emergency 2012 coming in October

So the year 2012 is supposed to be the time where the world is supposed to come to an end, at least according to some people. So how will the world deal with it? In the upcoming game Emergency 2012 you will get to find out for yourself.

The latest game in the long running fire-fighting and disaster simulation series has launched a Facebook page with some screenshots and info on the title. You will have to take control of fire trucks, salvage vehicles and more as you have to deal with a number of disasters, terrorist attacks, accidents and more in both single and multiplayer modes. The game is due out in October and GameSpot lists ValuSoft as its US publisher.

Steam adds games from THQ's ValuSoft line-up

If you download your games via Steam, you might be a . . . well, not a redneck but maybe smart. Valve's Steam service continues to gain publishers and this week Steam added seven games from ValuSoft, the budget brand from THQ.

All seven games in the line-up cost $19.99 but until August 5 people can download and purchase them for 10 percent off that price. That includes the PC game Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? This adaptation of the Fox primetime game show lets you embarrass yourself in the comfort of your own home answering questions that you should know the answers to and getting ribbed by the show' host Jeff Foxworthy. That's more terrifying than playing Doom.

GameTap signs partnership with THQ

Plus, some of THQ games will be made available for free to play on GameTap's ad-supported website.

GameTap will now feature titles from the THQ and ValuSoft catalogues, including critically acclaimed games such as Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40K, Red Faction, Supreme Commander, Titan Quest, Saints Row 2, PuzzleQuest and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Legend: Hand of God heading to the US

Master Creating's fantasy action-RPG Legend: Hand of God was first announced back in 2006 and released in Europe in 2007. Now it looks like the game is heading to US shores. THQ's budget brand ValuSoft just announced they will publish the game here for the price of $39.99 (that's hardly a "budget" price in our opinion, but what do we know?)

The game, which features a script by Gears of War writer Susan O'Connor, has a storyline that has the player controlling a character named Targon who decided to take it upon itself to fight a horde of demons who are making things difficult for the people of the fantasy world Aris. The game features over 30 quests and dozens of monsters to take out along with five customizible skill tress. If you need a Dungeon Siege/Diablo fix you can check out Legend: Hand of God when it is released in the US on August 1.

Dancing with the Stars heads to the PC

Last year Activision released a dancing-music game for the Wii based on the hit ABC reality-competition show Dancing with the Stars (itself based on the BBC hit show Strictly Come Dancing). Apparently THQ thinks the show's popularity is good enough to get the PC game rights. In fact it will ship to stores this week via its ValuSoft brand (it will also be made available via digital download).

The press release touts the game's list of 26 "celebrities" and professional dancers that make appearances in the game (is it just us or have the pro dancers become more well known than some of the so-called "stars"?) Players will be able to create their own dance routines for a variety of genres in the hopes of impressing the pro judges; the sexy but tough Carrie Ann Inaba, the classic and solid Len Goodman and the "needs Ritalin badly" Bruno Tonioli. Unfortunately a big reason for watching the show, the funny asides from host Tom Bergeron, don't seem to be a part of the game. Oh well.
