Interview: Unigine co-founder chats about OilRush

What do you do when you have a 3D game graphics engine that you want to show off? As we have seen from companies like Epic Games, id Software and Valve you can take that engine and also make great games with it. That's the approach that the Russia-based Unigine is doing with the upcoming game OilRush.

The title, which is currently scheduled for release later this year, takes a new spin on the RTS genre as players control units that fight to control deep sea oil rigs. Big Download got Unigine co-founder and CEO Denis Shergin to give us some more info about its plans for OilRush.

It's only been a day since Windows 7 officially released, and there is less than a handful of games that currently support DirectX 11, but there is now a benchmark available to gamers to see how well their hardware performs.

Developed by Unigine Corp using its proprietary Unigine engine technology, Heaven the first benchmark that measures the performance of DirectX 11 while showcasing its beauty. System requirements are shown after the jump along with a video of what the benchmark looks like.

Features include:
  • Native support of OpenGL, DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and DirectX 11
  • Comprehensive use of tessellation technology
  • Advanced SSAO (screen-space ambient occlusion)
  • Volumetric cumulonimbus clouds generated by a physically accurate algorithm
  • Dynamic simulation of changing environment with high physical fidelity
  • Interactive experience with fly/walk-through modes
  • ATI Eyefinity support
