Mercenary Wars is set in the not so distant future in a world where order and society as we know them are a thing of the past. The economies of the world have crashed and have been replaced with total chaos. New alliances have been forged and the world is now controlled by well-trained groups of mercenaries. Players must determine who to swear their allegiance to and fight side-by-side to the death, if necessary, in the quest to ensure becoming the new global powerhouse."

Mercenary Wars opens up (briefly) today and Tuesday

The upcoming free-to-play first person shooter Mercenary Wars recently shut down their first closed beta test. Now they are prepping to launch their second closed beta. But before they do they are allowing everybody to play the game today and Tuesday.

For both days, anyone will be able to access the servers without a beta key and play the game online between 5 pm-midnight Eastern Time. According to the game's official site, "This test is to ensure that the technical issues found in CBT1 have been corrected, and to get another round of feedback before we start the official Closed Beta 2." Mercenary Wars, developed by NM Productions and published by Uforia, is still scheduled to officially launch before the end of the year.

Mercenary Wars closed beta ends today

If you want to play in the closed beta test for Mercenary Wars, you had better hustle. The latest entry in the flood of free-to-play first person shooter titles is in the middle of their beta test but it's scheduled to shut down at 5 pm PT (8 pm ET) today. The game was first announced last August.

Developed by NM Productions and published by Uforia, Mercenary Wars has also revamped its web site with more info and media about the game. The back story takes place in the near future where the economy has collapsed (which could never happen in real life) and groups of mercenaries apparently run the world. Yes, the A-Team are apparently your new leaders. I pity the fool who crosses them.

Mercenary Wars trailer blasts away the competition

Mercenary Wars announced

Oh brother. They are coming out of the walls, man. I'm speaking, of course, of all of these free-to-play online first person shooters. There's a ton of them already out there now (Combat Arms, Cross Fire, Quake Live) and more are on the way (Huxley, Parabellum, etc). Now yet another such game has reared its head. It's called Mercenary Wars.

Developed by NM Productions and published by Uforia, the game follows the same formula as many of the other free-to-play FPS (who got their formula from Counter-Strike). Unlike some of these games, Mercenary Wars adds the option to play against AI bots as well as online human opponents. A stats system allows players to upgrade their characters over time and several gameplay modes will be available at launch with the promise of more modes added every couple of months. Mercenary Wars is due to launch in September.
