Silent Hunter 5 gets March 4 release date and Collector's Edition

Ubisoft continues to release PC exclusive games like the Settlers series and the Silent Hunter WWII naval sim series. Today the publisher revealed that Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic will be released on March 4. In addition to the Standard Edition, the game will also get a Collector's Editon.

The Collectors Edition will contain the game itself and the manual plus seven unique submarines and enemy skins. It will also have the game's official guide (which we presume has lots more detail about the game than the regular manual) and the game's official soundtrack on CD encased in custom iron packaging. Specific pricing for the Collector's Edition was not revealed.

Ubisoft announces Silent Hunter 5 for early 2010 release

You wouldn't think that a WWII naval war simulation franchise would be so popular, yet developer/publisher Ubisoft has released four PC games in their Silent Hunter franchise with a total of 1.5 million copies sold worldwide. Today the company revealed that Silent Hunter 5 is indeed in development and will ship to stores in the first quarter of 2010.

This time you will be able to not only command a German U-boat but you can check out your sub in a first person viewpoint. You can check out every aspect of your boat including what your crewmembers are doing. Of course you also can take command and engage in undersea warfare with enemy targets via a new user interface system.

E3 08: Tom Clancy's HAWX flies into trailer town

Tom Clancy's HAWX is rad for a number of reasons. The game takes place above a battlefield that is comprised of other Tom Clancy game staples, like a Ghost squad. HAWX is also infinitely more awesome because it forgoes all spelling conventions and adds an X to the title -- for seemingly no purpose. According to Ubisoft the acronym stands for "High Altitude Warfare Experimental Squadron." HAWES seems like a lame choice and, let's face it, had the game been named HAWXS minds would undoubtedly explode. Developed by Ubisoft Romania, the team behind the Silent Hunter and Blazing Angels franchises, Tom Clancy's HAWX is set to fly onto store shelves early next year. Also, we're aware the use of "fly onto store shelves" is about as lame as it gets. Either way, check out the E3 2008 trailer today.
