Exclusive: Mytheon to relaunch closed beta test in late January

We've been following the development of UTV True Games' upcoming free-to-play fantasy multiplayer action-RPG Mytheon ever since the game was first announced back in December 2008. Indeed we posted up the first interview about the game the day of it's official reveal. The game was originally developed by Petroglyph and in 2010 it seemed to be getting close to its official launch. In February the game went into its closed beta phase and in April it started its open beta test.

And that's when things got ... interesting. In May 2010 UTV True Games filed a lawsuit against Petroglyph claiming that the developer was holding the source code to the game "hostage". A few weeks later everything seemed to be OK again as the two companies announced that their legal issues had been resolved and that Mytheon would officially launch on July 13. But that wasn't the end of it as it was later revealed that the launch date for the game was pushed back indefinitely. In the end both companies admitted in the summer of 2010 that Petroglyph was no longer involved in the development of Mytheon.

The open beta for the game was shut down in September as UTV True Games announced that the development of Mytheon was now under their own internal development team. Tonight, Big Download can exclusively reveal that Mytheon, under the company's Beijing studio, will restart its closed beta test by the end of January.

The press release, which you can check out after the jump, has more details about the relaunch of Mytheon including word that previous beta testers of the game will be contacted soon via email. Those users will be able to use their old beta accounts in the new closed beta test and will also get "exclusive keys and in-game rewards in the coming weeks" before the beta test begins. The press release does not indicate when Mytheon will officially launch. Big Download also has the first screenshots from the new version of Mytheon which you can check out in the gallery below this post.

Sky Legends announced

More and more we are seeing browser-based games becoming more sophisicated and less like just simple Flash-based titles. This week publisher UTV True Games announced plans to launch Sky Legends, an upcoming multplayer oriented browser-based game from developer Smart Bomb Interactive.

The game itself has player piloting flying WWI-like biplanes in a weird fantasy world setting. You can fight against other pilots in several gameplay modes, customizer your biplanes and more. Sky Legends has already released its official web which has a grainy trailler showing off game gameplay footage. Sky Legends is due for release in spring 2011.

Mytheon launch date delayed

Folks waiting for the official launch of Mytheon will have to wait a bit longer that originally announced. The free-to-play multiplayer action-RPG game was supposed to launch tomorrow, July 13, but a post on the game's message boards has announced that the launch date has been delayed.

The game from developer Petroglyph and publisher UTV True Games is still in open beta testing but according to True Games's Community Relations Associate Jack Reed the development team is still working to improve the title before launch. He states, "In order to ensure that these improvements are included at the time of the Mytheon's official launch, the originally announced date of July 13th will be pushed back a bit, though we anticipate the new date will be soon after." No new launch date was given. Petroglyph and True Games got into a legal dispute over the game earlier this year but later announced they had resolved their differences.

Mytheon to officially launch July 13; legal issues resolved

After being announced in December 2008 and after going through a number of months of beta testing, publisher UTV True Games and developer Petroglyph has announced that the free-to-play multiplayer action-RPG Mytheon is now set for its official launch online on July 13. The game is currently in open beta.

Along with the launch date announcement comes word that the legal issues between UTV True Games and Petroglyph have now been resolved. Mytheon open beta continues despite lawsuit claims

Earlier this week we reported that True Games Interactive had filed a lawsuit against developer Petroglyph Games, claiming that the developer behind True Games' upcoming free-to-play action-RPG Mytheon was refusing to patch the game and was also holding "the source codes hostage ... making it impossible for TGI to complete Mytheon."

Despite the claims in the lawsuit the game itself is still in open beta and indeed a patch for the beta was released on Thursday. In a post on the game's official message board, True Games stated that even with the lawsuit, "Mytheon will proceed through Open Beta and launch officially in the near future. We cannot provide more details at this time." Big Download has contacted Petroglyph for their side on the lawsuit but the developer has chosen not to comment at this time.

True Games sues Petroglyph for Mytheon source code

In an unexpected development, True Games Interactive has decided to file a lawsuit against developer Petroglyph, the maker of True Games' upcoming multiplayer action-RPG Mytheon. The game entered open beta testing late in April but now True Games claims Petroglyph is refusing to fix bugs in the beta version and is holding "the source codes hostage ... making it impossible for TGI to complete Mytheon."

True Games' lawsuit, filed on May 4 and first reported by Courthouse News, claims that Petroglyph made "repeated, unreasonable demands . . . for additional funds and concessions" for developing Mytheon. True Games claims those actions as well as holding back the source code for the game, "poisoned the working relationship between TGI and Petroglyph, such that the entire multi-million dollar venture is in danger of collapsing." True Games accuses Petroglyph of breaching its contract and is asking for punitive damages and an an injunction to get Mytheon's source code. Big Download emailed Petroglyph for comment but so far we have not received a response.
