Gamestop offers Overlord II pre-order (non-living) collectible minion

Collecting, well, collectibles can be an obsession for some folks. And now game retailer Gamestop is offering those kinds of people a very expensive way to collect four different figurines that depict minions from the forthcoming fantasy strategy-RPG game Overlord II. If you pre-order the game you receive just one of the four minions pictured above.

Which means, of course, that to get all four figures you have to pre-order four separate copies of Overlord II.That means spending a whopping $120 on the game from developer Triumph Studios and publisher Codemasters. Those dastardly companies. They know collectible fans have to spend that much money for stuff that has an outside chance of being worth .. .well, we really don't know. But that's part of the fun isn't it?

Overlord 2 gets final release dates

One of the biggest game developers that apparently had decided to bypass exhibiting at E3 next month is Codemasters, despite the fact that they have a pretty impressive upcoming game line-up in 2009. This week GameSpot got word on the final release dates of one of those titles, Overlord II.

The action-RPG sequel from developer Triumph Studios has the player once again controlling a fantasy bad guy trying to take over a kingdom. The game is now due for release on June 23 for North American gamers while UK customers will have to wait until June 26 to get their copies. As we have reported before, Rhianna Pratchett returns as the writer for the sequel. She won the Writers Guild of Great Britain award for her work on the first game in the series

New Overlord II screenshots bring the pain; game's writer launches new site

This week the game's publisher Codemasters released some new screenshots from the game to keep us occupied until its planned release sometime this summer for the PC and other platforms.

As we mentioned previously Overlord II will have a script by fantasy author Rhianna Pratchet. This week the author launcher her own professional web site which gives her fans more info about her past, present and current writing projects. In addition to Overlord and its sequel she has written scripts for Mirror's Edge, Heavenly Sword and other games.

New Overlord II screenshots lord over all

Codemasters had a surprise critical and sales hit with the original 2007 released fantasy RPG-action game Overlord. So of course they decided to commission a sequel from the game's original developer Triumph Studios. In a recent press event Codemasters stated they were planning a June release for the game

New screenshots for Overlord II show that the game hasn't lost its sense of humor; you can see that from the shot above where evil Minions are riding wolves. As with the first game your goal is to be the evil bad guy of a fantasy land as you use these Minions to take over the Glorious Empire. Any empire with "Glorious" in its title needs to be put down anyway.

Codemasters unveils plans for Overlord II

Can you be good at being bad...again? Publisher Codemasters certainly hopes so as they have just announced plans to release Overlord II for the PC and other platforms in 2009. The sequel to the fantasy strategy-RPG will once again be developed by Triumph Studios as you play a new and evil Overlord that controls its Minions in a campaign that's based loosely on the Roman Empire.

Codemasters are promising that the Minions you get to control in Overlord II will be smarter and deadlier than the original and that they will be able to ride mounts like wolves and other creatures for the first time. Minions will also be able to wreck the surrounding buildings and scenery. Aside from the 2009 date, no specific release date was announced.
