Dungeon Defenders PC to have cross-platform support with PS3 version

dungeon defenders
In January we reported that Trendy Entertainment's upcoming PC version of its fantasy action-RTS-RPG game Dungeon Defenders would feature cross-platform multiplayer with the already released iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and Android versions of the game. Today we received a press release announcing that the PC port would also have cross-platform play with the game's PS3 version as well. This is definitely the first time a game has had so much cross-platform multiplayer support.

There's still no word on exactly when the PC version will be released. The last word was that it was coming sometime at the end of March or the beginning of April. Of course another game, Portal 2, will have cross-platform support for its PC, Mac and PS3 versions when it's released in April.

Dungeon Defenders delayed again; PC cross-platform play with iOS and Android versions

Dungeon Defenders, the fantasy RPG with some tower defense features, has already been released for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) as well as for Android phones and devices by developer Trendy Entertainment. But the PC version, which was supposed to be released this month, has been delayed again.

According to Trendy's Twitter page the new release date for the PC port is for sometime around the end of the first quarter of 2011, "around March/April". Of course if the game's release moves into the April time frame it will actually be out in the second quarter of this year. Also the PC version will come out "shortly after console versions", according to another "tweet". On the plus side, the iOS and Android versions will have "cross-platform online play" with the PC versions, according to a post on the game's official message boards.

Dungeon Defenders delayed until January 2011

Dungeon Defenders won't be defending our PC games this year after all. The fantasy themed tower defense-RPG title from developer Trendy Entertainment was supposed to be released this month but according to a post from Trendy's Jeremy Stieglitz on the developer's message boards the game now will be released in January 2011 with a demo to be released in the same month. Stieglitz blamed the delay on "certain parties requiring platform launch windows & requirements to do a simultaneous launch..."

The good news? Stieglitz says that the extra time will allow the development team to add the first planned DLC content into the actual game. That includes two additional maps along with "several item packs, and new enemie". In addition the first month of the game's DLC releases will also be free to download.

Interview: We chat with Trendy's co-founder about Dungeon Defenders

it began as a free demo to show off how easy it was to make a game using Epic Games' Unreal Development Kit. The result was Dungeon Defense, which was released several months ago. Now the tower defense-action-RPG is getting a name change in Dungeon Defenders and is close to becoming a full fledged downloadable commercial game. It's planned for release in November from developer Trendy Entertainment and publisher Reverb.

So how does a free game make the turn to a full commercial product? We got some answers to that and more from Jeremy Stieglitz, Trendy's co-founder, Development Director and Chief Technology Officer.

UDK demo Dungeon Defense to morph into full game Dungeon Defenders

It began as a free demo to show off the use of Epic Games' Unreal Developer Kit tools but now it's being reworked as a full commercial game title. Developer Trendy Entertainment has announced its plans to release Dungeon Defenders, a action-RPG-tower defense hybrid title, via download this fall.

The game was previously released last February as a free UDK demo under the title Dungeon Defense. The UDK demo reportedly only took four weeks to develop. The full version of the title under its slightly changed name will feature 15 levels and a "watercolor art style" in its depiction of a fantasy-themed tower defense game with a number of action and RPG elements including "character leveling and customization, awesome loot drops and plenty of team-oriented defensive strategy." There's also support planned for four player multiplayer via online and LAN. The title is now available for pre-order at GamersGate and Impulse and both are giving a pre-order discount of 10 percent off its regular $9.99 price.

Project Natal-like VisionTennis game coming to the PC

Microsoft has been making a lot of buzz about its upcoming Project Natal efforts for the Xbox 360 console. Using a specially made camera to allow players to interact with games and other things on screen without the need for a conventional controller has certainly gotten a lot of press. Now developer Trendy Entertainment has announced plans to bring a Project Natal-like experience to PC users.

Their technology is called VisionPlay and according to the developer it will require no special equipment other than a regular off-the-shelf web cam attached to your PC. Trendy is developing a prototype game called VisionTennis that will allow players to use their body to control the tennis players on screen. The game is scheduled to be release later this year.
