The Old Republic timeline video recounts the fall to the dark side

These timeline video continue to recount the events that build up the backstory for Star Wars: The Old Republic. This entry focuses on the Mandalorian Wars, which threatened to devastate the Republic. The Jedi Council wanted to sit out the conflict, but a group of them rebelled against orders and fought for what they believed in. However, this group would be among the first Jedi to fall to the dark side, which just goes to show that no act of compassion goes without consequence in the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently expected to launch sometime in the spring of 2011.

Star Trek Online video explains the history of the future

Star Trek Online takes place 2409, thirty years after the events of the movie Star Trek Nemesis. That's a lot of far future history to cover, and this timeline video helps prepare cadets for what to expect from the story. This first chapter covers a conflict between Romulan factions, which is soon interrupted by a Klingon invasion. Soon, the Klingons end up with their own problems as the Gorn march in launch their own war. A lot of information is packed into two and half minutes, so it might be worth watching this a few times to take it all in.

Star Wars: The Old Republic timeline uncovers the conspiracy behind the Mandelorians

Author (and gamer) Michael Crichton passes away

One of the world's best known authors, Michael Crichton, has died at the age of 66. According to an AP report his family announced that the best selling author of books like Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain and others had finally succumbed to a long fight with cancer.

While Crichton was best known for his books he was also a known fan of PC games. He helped to create a graphical adventure game for the PC in 1984 called Amazon that sold well and was acclaimed for adding things like music and color graphics (something which adventure games had not had at the time). In 1999 he co-founded the PC developer Timeline Computer Entertainment. The developer released only one game before shutting down, a poorly received PC action game based on his time travel novel Timeline that came out via Eidos in 2000. In 2002, Sega announced it would be publishing a new game based on an original concept by Crichton but that game was never published.
