Thief 4 shown in new photo?

thief 4
Thief 4 was announced nearly two years ago but the game's development team at Eidos Montreal hasn't said much and shown nothing of the next game in the "sneaker" shooter series. Now a new photo found on the company's web site seems to show off something that looks like it could be from the new game in the Thief series.

The shot seems to show a person in third person with a bow in his hand. If this really is from Thief 4 it would seem to show that at least part of the game uses the third person perspective. There's still no word on when Thief 4 will be released. Eidos Montreal is still working on Deus Ex Human Revolution which is supposed to come out sometime in 2011.

Square Enix records lower profits in latest financial report

Publisher Square Enix announced its latest financial numbers for the company's nine month period that ended on December 31, 2010. Revenues came in at 98.1 billion yen for the period which was down 28 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Profits came in at 1.8 billion yen, a whopping 77 percent reduction from the same period a year ago.

The bug-filled launch of the fantasy MMO Final Fantasy XIV was perhaps a big reason for the shortfall as Square Enix has delayed taking monthly subscriptions for the game indefinitely until the development team can fix and improve the game. In 2011, Square Enix plans to release at least two PC games; the action-RPG Dungeon Siege III and the long awaited Deus Ex Human Revolution.

That Razer concept dealie for the mobile PC game device has a ton of potential. They just need to get the right combo of hardware and price and it could sell like hotcakes.

Sorry: No Thief 4 appearance at E3 2010

Fan of the "sneaker shooter" Thief series were happy to learn in May 2009 that a fourth installment in the franchise was officially in the works. However it looks like the game is still too early in development to be shown at E3 2010 in two weeks. According to Connected Consoles, the word from developer Eidos Montreal is that Thief 4 won't be making an appearance at the event.

Obviously all the attention for this year will be given to Eidos Montreal's first game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which will be shown for the first time in playable form at E3 2010.

Feature: 10 PC Games We Wish Were Coming In 2010

Last week we did an extensive look at all of the big PC game titles that are currently scheduled for release this year (at least that's the plan; release dates can and likely will change for many of those titles). But there are also many games that have already been announced are not on our 2010 list. The reason? We just don't think they will ship out before the year is over.

However that's no reason to at least hope against hope. We decided to pick 10 previously announced games that we don't think will be released in the next 12 months but we do wish would make it. Of course, one or two of the titles on this list may actually surprise us and come out by the end of 2010. But at the moment the odds don't look good. By the way, we picked 10 games that are all officially announced. We could add a ton of other games that we know are in development but are not yet ready to become public (Blizzard's next-gen MMO, the next Infinity Ward game, etc) but that's a much longer list that we will get to later.

The Top 10 PC Game News Stories For May 2009

Whew! What a month May was. Thanks in part to E3 happening in the first week of June there were quite a few new game announcements may in the weeks prior to E3 2009. However there were also some non-E3 related stories to tell in the last 31 day.

It was very hard to pick the top 10 PC game news stories for May; there were lots of others that could have made this list. However it was actually very easy to pick the story that made it to number one this month. Indeed the story we have picked could be the biggest PC game story of the year so far.

Thief 4 officially announced

Fans of the Thief sneaker shooter series have reason to celebrate today as Eidos' Montreal dev studio web site has officially announced the latest game in the series, Thief 4. The Montreal team is also developing Deus Ex 3, another game who had previous entries made by the now defunct Ion Storm.

Unfortunately, game details, screenshots, trailers and a release date are not in the initial announcement since the game is still in the early development stages. Indeed the announcement of Thief 4 seems to be more of a recruiting tool for new team members than it is a full-fledged game announcement. Of course we will be covering Thief 4 in the months (and likely years) to come.

More evidence of new Thief game announcement soon

Last month, Eidos Montreal's web site posted up a banner with word that their second major game project would be revealed "soon". Rumors began to fly that the second project (the first is the already announced Deus Ex 3) would a be new game in the Thief sneaker shooter series.

Now comes word via a scan of the new Edge print magazine on GameSpot's message boards that the reveal date has changed from "soon" to "May 11" which is a week from today. Furthermore the ad mentions online articles on GameSpy and GameSpot. All of them have the Thief series in common. Let's just say this: if the unannounced game doesn't have something to do with Thief a lot of folks are going to be upset.
