Original Witcher game coming to GoG.com May 10; to include topless ladies calendar as bonus

While we expected this to happen, today GoG.com announced that the DRM-free PC game download site will begin selling Enhanc Director's Cut version of The Witcher, the first game in the fantasy RPG series from developer CD Projekt. The game will go live on the site on May 10. While it will normally be sold for $9.99, the price from May 10-24 will be just $4.99.

In addition to the lower price the version of the game sold on GoG.com will come with a couple of extras not available anywhere else including a downloadable 12 month calendar featuring topless ladies (yes this game is rated "M" for a reason". The calender was only made available previously in the game's native Poland when The Witcher was first released. The GoG.com version will also include the game's soundtrack, a downloadable artbook, avatars and 30 wallpapers.

New version of The Witcher (with more nudity) due for release on Friday

A few days ago we reported that yet another new version of The Witcher would be released to the US audience. Today developer CD Projekt has confirmed that they will release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut via download this Friday. Previous owners of the game will get to download a free patch that will upgrade their version to the new Director's Cut edition

The new version and the patch will basically turn the US version of the fantasy RPG into the one that everyone else on the planet has played. That means the new US Director's Cut version will also have the international's increased amount of nudity. Which, of course, is always important to have.

Full nude content coming to new US version of The Witcher

CD Projekt's hit fantasy RPG The Witcher is a big hit both in the US and around the world. However the US edition hasn't quite been the same one that folks in the rest of the globe have played. Basically we haven't gotten as much nudity in the North American version.

That's all about to change, though, as CD Projekt has announced plans to release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. As they state on the game's official web site, "The Director's Cut is the version of the game our developers originally intended for you to play." The ESRB will rate the Director's Cut version as "M" just like the previous versions; however instead of "Partial Nudity" the ESRB description for the Director's Cut version now simply says "Nudity". US gamers who already own The Witcher will be able to download a free patch to upgrade it to the Director's Cut. In addition the new version will be made available as a full digital download.

Witcher: Enhanced Edition to get blood patch

To quote Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon 3: "Opps", It appears that the US edition of CD Projekt's newly released action-RPG revamp The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is lacking something that it really needs: blood. Yes, the game was released without all of the hemogoblin that was originally promised would be spraying out of all the creatures you will be slaying in the game.

Shacknews reports that a patch for the game will be released ASAP that will put the red back in the Enhanced Edition. Meanwhile, owners of the original 2007 version of the game are awaiting the release of the patch on Friday that will add all of the new stuff that Enhanced Edition contains for free.

Review: The Witcher Enhanced Edition

Director's Cut, enhanced, extended or collector's editions... whatever you want to call them, video game collector's editions are always a toss-up. Publishers all too often see fit to charge upwards of $80 for special releases that come with a pewter figurine at pre-order and a poster crammed inside the box on launch day. Other companies such as Blizzard Entertainment stuff their oversized collector's boxes with soundtracks, maps, behind-the-scenes DVDs and signed manuals but still put the price tag at the halfway mark between Break Your Bank and Sell Your Soul.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition stands as a testament to a collector's edition done right. New in-game content, bonus DVDs and soundtracks, an affordable price tag and above all else, the time developer CD Projekt RED took to address legitimate complaints concerning the core game make this a must-buy package.
