Sims 2 gets top spot in latest NPD PC best seller list

The week after Christmas saw just some minor changes in the NPD's latest list of the top 10 best selling PC retail games in the US. The list, for the week that ended January 3, did see Electronic Arts' The Sims 2 Double Deluxe take the top spot, uprooting Blizzard's MMO expansion World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King from the number one position it has held since it was released in late November.

1. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
2. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard
3. Spore - Electronic Arts
4. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
5. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard
6. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
7. Left 4 Dead - Valve/EA
8. Call Of Duty: World At War - Activision
9. World of Warcraft - Blizzard
10. The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff - Electronic Arts

Another shuffling of the deck in latest top 10 best selling PC game list

The NPD Group has provided their latest top 10 best seling PC games list for the US retail store market. Unfortunately the list, for the week ending December 27, is just a repeat of the same list from last week with some changes in positions.

As expected Blizzard's MMO expansion pack World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King remains in the number one spot but EA's The Sims 2Double Deluxe supplants Spore this week in the number 2 spot. Other than that, this new list is a bit of a yawner:

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard
2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
3. Spore - Electronic Arts
4. Left 4 Dead - Valve/EA
5. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
6. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
7. Call Of Duty: World At War - Activision
8. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard
9. The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff - Electronic Arts
10. Bejeweled Twist - Popcap Games

Little change in latest NPD top 10 best selling PC games list

The NPD Group was apparently busy during the holiday break as the consumer tracking company has now released its latest list of the top 10 best selling PC games, this time for the week ending Dec. 20. There's no new games on the list compared to the last NPD list but there has been some shuffling of the deck in positions

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard
2. Spore - Electronic Arts
3. Left 4 Dead - Valve/EA
4. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
5. Call Of Duty: World At War - Activision
6. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
7. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
8. Bejeweled Twist - Popcap Games
9. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard

Nielsen reveals top 10 PC games played in 2008

2009 is now firmly underway but some companies are still looking back to the past 12 months. One of those companies is Nielsen who is best known for their TV ratings system. Today the company announced their 2008 top 10 lists covering entertainment and ads in a variety of catagories. One of them was for the top 10 PC games that were most played in the US (the ratings were actually for activity for January-October 2008).

It's not a shock to learn that Blizzard's hit MMO World of Warcraft was the number one PC game that was most played according to Nielsen. The study claims that the game is played an average of 671 minutes a week, or just over 11 hours, per gamer. Nielsen also claims that every minute about .723 percent of all PC gamers are playing World of Warcraft, a massive number that blows away every other game on the top 10 list. A number of older games are on the list including the PC version of Halo and web browser based MMO RuneScape:

1. World of Warcraft
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
3. Halo: Combat Evolved
4. The Sims
5. The Sims 2
6. RuneScape
7. Diablo II
8. Team Fortress 2
9. Counter-Strike
10. Counter-Strike: Source

Lich King remains number one on top 10 best selling PC game list

As we head into the final days of the holiday shopping season, PC game buyers are behaving in prediciable ways. The last top 10 list of the best selling PC games in the US (via the NPD Group) once again shows Blizzard's MMO expansion pack World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King at the top of the charts for the week ending Dec. 13.

Little has changed between this week's list and last week's line-up. The only major change is Rockstar Games' PC port of Grand Theft Auto IV is off the top 10 list after just one week while Popcap Games' casual puzzle game Bejeweled Twist debuts on the list at number 8.

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard
2. Spore - Electronic Arts
3. Call Of Duty: World At War - Activision
4. Left 4 Dead - Valve/EA
5. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
6. The Sims 2 Deluxe - Electronic Arts
7. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
8. Bejeweled Twist - Popcap Games
9. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard
10. The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff - Electronic Arts

Fallout 3 maintains lead in latest top 10 best selling PC games list

Bethesda Softworks' post-apocalypse RPG Fallout 3 continues to sell well on the PC platform. The game was number one on the NPD Group's latest list of the top 10 best selling PC games in retail stores in the US, this time for the week ending Nov. 8.

EA's alien evolution sim Spore shows up in the number two spot this week and its RTS title Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 is, appropriately, number 3 on the list this week. After being pushed out of the top 10 by some collector's edtions of games, Blizzard's World of Warcraft returns to the top 10 with two versions of the MMO. You can expect the second expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, to be on top of the NPD Group's list next week.

1. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
2. Spore - Electronic Arts
3. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Electronic Arts
4. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest - Blizzard
5. Far Cry 2 - Ubisoft
6. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
7. The Sims 2 Apartment Live - Electronic Arts
8. Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy - Her Interactive
9. Crysis Warhead - Crytek/EA
10. World of Warcraft - Blizzard

Fallout 3 and Red Alert 3 top latest NPD best selling PC game list

Having Fallout 3 become a sales hit out of the blocks wasn't a shock and this week the NPD Group proved it with their latest list of the top 10 best selling PC games in the US at retail stores. This week's list for games sold in the week ending on Nov. 1 had Bethesda Softworks' RPG claiming the top spot. In fact the game showed up three times; the regular edition, the Collector's Edition at number three and the Amazon.com exclusive Survival Edition at number nine

The list also has a strong debut for EA's RTS title Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 which came in at number two with the Premier Edition of the game squeezing in at number 10. All of these titles pushed out games like Warhammer Online, Dead Space and Civilization IV: Colonization out of the top 10 list. In fact, there's no listing at all for any World of Warcraft game. Now that is a shocker.

1. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
2. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Electronic Arts
3. Fallout 3 Collector's Edition - Bethesda Softworks
4. Spore - Electronic Arts
5. Far Cry 2 - Ubisoft
6. he Sims 2 Apartment Live - Electronic Arts
7. Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy - Her Interactive
8. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
9. Fallout 3 Survival Edition - Bethesda Softworks
10. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 Premier Edition - Electronic Arts

EA hit with two more SecuROM lawsuits

Last month, in the wake of the controversy surrounding Electronic Arts' DRM set-up for Spore, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the publisher, alleging that EA did not disclose the use of the SecuROM software in the alien evolution sim game. Now Game Politics is reporting that EA has been hit with two more lawsuits, each alleging the install of the SecuROM software without their knowledge.

One lawsuit centers around the software being installed with Spore Creature Creator, the stand alone creator editor. The other is for the software being installed with The Sims 2: Bon Voyage expansion pack, released a year ago. In the latter case, the person claimed problems with their PC arose after installing the expansion. All three plaintiffs in the SecuROM lawsuits are represented by the same lawyer. EA has yet to comment on these lawsuits.

Spore stays atop the latest NPD top 10 best selling PC games list

Will Wright's alien evolution sim Spore seems to be holding its own against the rest of the PC games out there in terms of sales. Despite mixed reviews and protests against its DRM set-up the game remains atop the top 10 best selling games list as monitored and revealed by the NPD Group. The latest list, which is for the week ending Oct. 4, has no new games debuting on the charts. Lego Batman has fallen out of the top 10 list while the $9.99 Spore Creature Creator reappears in the number 10 spot.

1. Spore - Electronic Arts
2. Warhammer Online - Mythic/Electronic Arts
3. Civilization IV: Colonization - 2K Games
4. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
5. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard
6. Crysis Warhead - Crytek/Electronic Arts
7. World of Warcraft - Blizzard
8. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
9. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade - Blizzard
10. Spore Creature Creator - Electronic Arts
