GoG.com adds more Ubisoft games to DRM-free library

CD Projekt's GOG.com game download site continues to add new classic PC game titles to its DRM-free library. Today the site announced a new agreement with Ubisoft that will bring a new batch of older games from that publisher to GoG.com. One of them is Heroes of Might and Magic II: Gold Edition, the 1996 released fantasy turn based strategy game that was originally released by the now defunct 3DO.

Another game added to the library today is The Settlers II: Gold Edition, the second game in the (sort of) historical strategy game developed originally by Blue Byte Software. Both new GoG.com titles are on sale for $9.99 each.

Boot Disk: The Settlers 2

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

Some games are good. Some games are so good that, in fact, that they virtually define their entire legacy in a single game and wait for it to waste away through sequels that "just don't get it." Games that are held to such a high standard that nobody, especially not the original developers, can outdo them. This is the fraternity that The Settlers 2 belongs to. One of the best strategy games ever made, its mixture of entrancing pixel art, peaceful economics, and low-key combat helped create the feeling of zen in those who played it. While the developers have since moved on and tried to continue the game in many sequels, none have quite hit the mark the way The Settlers 2 has. It's time to take a look at what made Settlers 2 so compelling.
