The Secret World trailer reveals the ultimate truth

Said ultimate truth, however, happens to be that every myth ever created is true. While this trailer for The Secret World doesn't show any detailed in-game footage, it does list off a number of myths that Funcom's next MMO will hopefully cover. From Atlantis to Cthulhu, werewolves to the Garden of Eden, it rattles off myth after myth before saying that they are all valid. It's mostly text and generic epic-sounding music, though.

The Secret World trailer reveals more secrets

The Secret World as a game has been pretty secretive all by itself for the most part but recently the development team at Funcom started to reveal more concrete info about its upcoming "secret society" themed MMO. A new trailer from last week's GDC 2011 finally shows off some in-game footage from the title which stil doesn't have a release date.

The trailer shows a ton of combat against some pretty weird looking enemies while members of the Funcom dev team talk more about how The Secret World will allow the player to have tons of freedom to play the game they want to play (no leveling up, no classes). It sounds pretty ambitious and if you want more info you can check out our sister site Massively for the latest.

The Secret World to be co-published by EA

There hasn't been much news lately on The Secret World but today developer Funcom's upcoming "world conspiracy" MMO just got a huge partner. The company announced that that it will co-publish the game with Electronic Arts via the EA Partners division.

That's basically the big announcement. Financial terms were not disclosed and the long-in-development game still doesn't have a release date. However the fact that EA will now be a partner in publishing the game with Funcom will likely ensure that The Secret World will be getting a lot more marketing and promotion than if Funcom were handling the publishing duties by themselves.

The Secet World trailer gets busy in magical old London

Despite the relatively mediocrity and poor reception of Age of Conan, developer Funcom has been hard at work on magical conspiracy MMO The Secret World. It may have been delayed, but it has certainly not been forgotten, and this trailer gives a glimpse into the modern, yet magic-suffused world players will join. The trailer only explores London, and showcases some of the areas, cutscenes, and characters that one will interface with when they get the game. Of most interest is The Fallen King, a hobo that purports to give visions of personal futures. This aims to show players the ropes of combat and grouping, and the trailer shows the results. While it's not all that fantastic looking compared to other upcoming MMOs, The Secret World certainly has our interest!

The Secret World gameplay trailer reveals some secrets

After releasing a teaser for a gameplay trailer (which doesn't happen every day) developer Funcom has now released its first full gameplay trailer for its upcoming MMO The Secret World. There's all sorts of weird creatures roaming around in Funcom's alternate version of our own Earth (or is it our Earth?).

We particularly like the hovering creature which kind of looks like the Mind Flayer monster from our old Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual. Funcom has yet to announce a release date for The Secret World but if they are finally putting out gameplay trailers that "secret" release date must be getting closer.

The Secret World trailer teases with something big coming

The Secret World trailer discovers Hell in Kingsmouth

In The Secret World, players will encounter all sorts of supernatural threats, including a fog that turns people like the residents of a formerly sleepy New England town called Kingsmouth into the land of the walking dead. It's just one stop on the way of fighting against the evil tide. Players can learn more about this location by visiting the official Kingsmouth website, specifically set up for prospective The Secret World players. Maybe there's some hidden information or clues as to what's going on. In the very least, it'll provide some recon so that players will know what they're stepping into.

"The Secret World takes place in our own, modern-day world. Players can explore locations such as New York, London, and Seoul, as they unravel the mysteries, legends and myths that make up our world and its history. But the real and realistic will clash with the unreal and fantastical, as the darkness of the secret world approaches. Players will have the freedom to become whatever they want to be and play however they want to play, allowing them to explore the world at will and master anything from voodoo and black magic to martial arts and modern firearms."

The Secret World opens up the Kingsmouth web site

While we may still have to wait a while before a lot of concrete info on The Secret World is revealed, developer Funcom is trying to have some fun with its community for the upcoming MMO. A few days ago they secretly launched the web site for the fictional small town of Kingsmouth, Maine. The town seems like the normal coastal village but we are betting there's a lot more to this location than meets the eye.

Indeed we are betting the web site itself has lots of "stuff" waiting to be discovered. There definitely a dark "Lovecraft-like" underbelly to the site (some of the names are straight out of H.P. Lovecraft's stories). There's a story on their news page that seems to hint about an event on April 3. We are marking our calendars now.

Funcom Canada gets a CEO

Several months ago, MMO developer Funcom announced plans to open up a development studio in Montreal, Canada. This week the company announced that it has brought in someone to serve as the CEO of their new Canadian operations.

That person is Miguel Caron who comes into his new gig from outside the game industry including heading up Lyrtech Inc. He comes into his new position as Funcom as the company has been dealing with large amounts of recent layoffs as well as a delay in the release of their next major MMO project The Secret World. However, the company recently launched the beta of their first casual MMO Pets Vs. Monsters. They also have their upcoming commerical expansion for Age of Conan, Rise of the Godslayer, in the works.

Funcom records loss for latest financial quarter

MMO game developer Funcom continues to have financial problems as shown in their latest economic press release today. The company announced that it had a loss of $9.6 million for the quarter that ended on September 30 compared to a profit of $3.3 million last year. Revenues were down to just $5.7 million for the quarter which is a nearly 69 percent decrease from the same period a year ago.

Nearly two months ago, Funcom cut their work force by 20 percent and announced a delay in the release of their next major MMO project The Secret World. Today they announced that their first free-to-play casual MMO, Pets Vs Monsters, would go into beta testing in December with an official launch in 2010. They also stated that their first major commercial expansion for Age of Conan would launch in the first half of 2010.
