Get Monkey Island game bundle for $19.95 until Friday

Telltale Games may be getting ready to launch a new game project soon but their last game Tales of Monkey Island was still their most popular title in the many episodic adventure game series the company has created. Now you can get the five part series plus the special edition of the very first Monkey Island game for a special price.

Telltale is selling the PC version of their own game and LucasArts' graphically upgraded The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition for just $19.95. This special bundle price is valid until Friday, May 7. Telltale is currently in the middle of their new Sam and Max series and have just announced their newest project Puzzle Agent.

InstantAction.com presents embeded version of Monkey Island SE

After nearly two months of inactivity , the InstantAction.com web site actually has a game to play on it. As promised, the browser based gaming web site is moving slowly into its next phase by releasing LucasArts' The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. The big difference between the InstantAction.com version and the one that's already available for download is that this port can be embeded onto web sites and even your Facebook page. Yep, just like a Flash video.

We would actually put the embeded version on our site but unfortunately there are three fixed widths to choose from and none of them fit in our layout. However you can head to the InstantAction.com site to see it for yourself. The embeded version is for Windows PCs only (sorry Mac owners) but it does allow you to play the game for free for 20 minutes. You can then buy the full game for $9.99.

Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition now available for the Mac

Last year, LucasArts made a lot of old time fans of the publisher's adventure games happy with the release of the graphically revamped The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. Now, nearly a year after the game was first released for the PC, the remake is now available for Mac users.

The $9.99 download is on sale now via download from GameAgent, the downloadable game store from Aspyr Media. LucasArts has already announced plans for a special edition remake of Monkey Island 2. The remake will also be available for the Mac and the PC when its released this summer.

New screenshots compare old and new Secret Of Monkey Island 2 versions

Last month at GDC, LucasArts announced their plans for The Secret of Monkey Island 2 Special Edition, which will bring both graphical and audio upgrades of the classic adventure game sequel. This week the publisher sent over some new screenshots that compare and contrast the Special Edition visuals with the original game.

We have put those screenshots in our newly updated gallery which you can check out below the post. As with last year's remake of the first Monkey Island game, this new version will have not only updated graphics but also a revamped musical score, full voice acting and a hint system. It will also allow players to listen to in-game commentary from the game developers and a way to directly control the main character instead of the typical point-and-click adventure game mode. The remake is still supposed to be released this summer.

GDC 2010: The Secret of Monkey Island 2 remake officially announced [Update]

As previously rumored, LucasArts has just announced plans at a GDC 2010 event to release The Secret of Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, a new graphical remake of the classic 1991 adventure game. Our sister site Joystiq reports that the remake will be a little different than 2009's relaunch of the first Monkey Island game. In addition to the old point-and-click gameplay players will be able to move lead character Guybrush Threepwood around a bit. Expect to hear developer commentary in the new remake too (shades of Valve's recent games). The Secret of Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will be released for the PC and other platforms sometime this summer. We will post up some screenshots of the remake as soon as we get them.

In related news, the first Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition game will be ported to the Mac OS (no date was revealed) and will soon be available on Telltale Games's web store as well as the InstantAction.com web browser game site.

Update: The game's official web site has now launched and we now have some screenshots that compare scenes from the original with the remake in the gallery below.

Monkey Island remake sits atop Steam sales list this week

LucasArts's decision to release a revamp of the 1990 adventure game The Secret of Monkey Island seems to have paid off. The download-only game is on top of the current weekly PC game sales list for Valve's Steam service (based on revenues).

Another interesting trend is the pre-order sales for Aion, the upcoming fantasy MMO from NCsoft. The Collector's Edition version of the game is at number 3 this week on Steam. People who pre-order either the regular or collector's versions of Aion are automatically entered into the game's beta test before it's scheduled launch in late September.

Without further ado here is the Steam sales list for the week ending July 18:
1. The Secret of Monkey Island - LucasArts
2. Left 4 Dead - Valve
3. Aion Collector's Edition - NCsoft
4. ArmA 2 - Bohemia Interactive
5. Street Fighter IV - Capcom
6. Counter-Strike: Source - Valve
7. Dawn of Discovery - Ubisoft
8. Brothers In Arms Pack - Gearbox Software/Ubisoft
9. GRID - Codemasters
10. Team Fortress 2 - Valve

Direct2Drive to add LucasArts games to line-up

LucasArts made some major news earlier this month with their announcement that they would offer a number of their classic PC games via Steam for digital download. As it turns out, LucasArts will be branching out and using another download service, Direct2Drive, to delivery their classic titles as well.

The new deal was announced the same day that Direct2Drive and Steam offered up the launch of The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. The graphical remake of the 1990 adventure game is now available from both sites for $9.99. Direct2Drive will add additional LucasArts titles to its lineup in the coming weeks.

This Week in PC Games: July 13-19

We are solidly in the PC game release doldrum period but the only new PC game release due this week will certainly please old school adventure game fans:

The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
: One week after Telltale Games released the first episode of their all new Tales of Monkey Island series, LucasArts brings back the first game in the classic adventure game franchise with a whole new coat of paint. While this downloadable release (via Steam) will allow people to play the game as folks did in 1990 it also comes with a version that has revamped graphics, improved music and sound and an all new voice cast.

Secret of Monkey Island SP priced at $10 for PC version

Wednesday's release of 10 LucasArts games via Steam seems to be a big hit with a few hitting the top sales list so far. Of course yet another classic LucasArts game is due for release on Wednesday, July 15. Today LucasArts and Steam revealed the final price for the PC version of The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition.

The revamped version of the 1990 adventure game will cost a mere $10 when it becomes available on Steam. While you can play the original version of the game you will able be able to switch to the Special Edition version that contains the new graphics, music, sound effects and newly created voice acting. That sounds like a bargain to us.
