The Darkness 2 to get prequel comic book for Free Comic Book Day

A few weeks ago developer Digital Extremes and publisher 2K Games announced plans to release The Darkness 2, a sequel to the horror-themed first person shooter based on the Top Cow-published comic book. Now Top Cow has announced that it will take advantage of a big day in the comic book industry to help promote the game.

That day, May 7, is Free Comic Book Day, where comic book stores all over the US offer free comic book issues by the major publishers, some of which are made especially for the event. Top Cow had plans to issue another book from its line up for Free Comic Book Day but today it announced that it has changed its plans and will now issue an original comic that will serve as a prequel to The Darkness 2. The game itself is due for release this fall.

Mike Patton returns to voice title role in The Darkness II

More details of The Darkness II are coming out following the game's official announcement last week. Big Download first reported that the first person shooter sequel will use developer Digital Extremes' in-house Evolution Engine. Now Hell Descent reports that Mike Patton will indeed return to voice the title role of the demon in The Darkness II.

Patton, best known as the lead singer in the rock band Faith No More, started his voice acting work with the original game back in 2007. Since then he has provided voices for other games such as Portal, both Left 4 Dead games and as the lead role in the 2009 Bionic Commando revival. The Darkness II is scheduled to be released via publisher 2K Games this fall.

The Darkness II announced for PC for fall 2011 release

The Darkness II, the sequel to 2007 console-only first person action game, has just been announced by publisher 2K Games. Unlike the original game developed by Starbreeze Studios the sequel will also be released for the PC sometime this fall. The game also gets a new developer in Digital Extremes.

Based once again on the Top Cow comic book series, The Darkness II has players taking on the role of Jackie Estacado who is now head of the Franchetti crime family. He has been holding in the supernatural powers of The Darkness since the events of the original game but now a mob war and an attack on Jackie's life is causing The Darkness to come out. The game is supposed to allow players to use both first person shooter weapons in both hand and the Demon Arms power of The Darkness at the same time in what the press release states is the game's "Quad-Wielding gameplay."
