Alyssa Milano joins Ghostbusters game voice cast

Much has been made about the fact that this summer's Ghostbusters game from developer Terminal Reality and publisher Atari will feature the vast majority of the original movie's cast returning to voice their roles. One that didn't make it was Sigourney Weaver who played the role of Bill Murray's love interest Dana Barrett in both Ghostbusters films.

Now the Associated Press reports that the main female character in the game is an all original cast member named Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn. She's described as "the brainy guest curator of a 'World of Gozer' exhibit at the Natural History Museum." The actress who plays her role is anything but a nerd, however. It's major 1980s dream girl Alyssa Milano. The AP quotes Milano as saying, "Obviously, fans of the movie are going to miss Sigourney Weaver. I have so much respect for that character in the movie that I hope I do the position that she is in justice. I was just flattered to be asked to be part of 'Ghostbusters'." Hey, we are glad you were asked, too.

Terminal Reality promotes their engine to third parties; the return of Nocturne?

You can add yet another third party game graphics engine to the already crowded list of engines on the market for game developers. Terminal Reality, the developers of the upcoming Ghostbusters game for Atari, has announced that they plan to license their Infernal Engine they used to make the game to other developers.

In fact Terminal Reality has been developing versions of its Infernal Engine for a number of their in-house projects including their 1999 third person horror-themed action game Nocturne. The screenshot above shows off the game's lead character, the Stranger, but rendered in Terminal Reality's latest version of their engine. While the company plans to use the character in future engine demos there's no word on if this means a new Nocturne game is in the works.

Terminal Reality is claiming their engine has an "advanced physics solution, powerful particle system, and rendering features that provide ultra-realistic environments and characters" along with solid tech support. The company has already licensed out their technology to other companies such as Threewave Software, Red Fly Studios, Escalation Studios and others.

More Ghostbusters shots from New York Comic Con

The suddenly popular New York Comic Con is in full swing and Atari is in attendance with a few of their upcoming games. One of them is the long awaited Ghostbusters title from developer Terminal Reality and today Atari sent over some new screenshots showing more of the game in action. We've added the four new shots to our already established gallery

Originally to be released by Vivendi Games but then orphaned by the Activision Blizzard merger, Ghostbusters is now set for release via Atari on June 16, the same date as the original film version's debut on Blu-Ray disk. As we have said in the past we have high hopes that this is the Ghostbusters game we have always wanted.

New Ghostbusters screenshots are full of slime

This June we finally get the Ghostbusters games that (hopefully) we have been waiting for since the original movie came out. Developer Terminal Reality and publisher Atari sent out a number of new screenshots for the game that we have added to our ever growing gallery.

These are some of the first screenshots we have seen that show the main Ghostbusters team fairly clearly in the shots. Venkman is spraying some slime around in the above shot and other screenshots show off Spengler and his hair (which is almost a full character in of itself). Hopefully the game will play as good as it looks at this stage.

Ghostbusters game on June 16 alongside new Blu-Ray movie edition

The long awaited Ghostbusters game now has a solid release date and it looks like the Terminal Reality- developed title will be getting a lot of promotion from its owners Sony. The game is now due for release on June 16. It's also the same day Sony will release the Blu-Ray version of the original 1982 comedy action film, according to The Digital Bits web site.

Originally due for release last fall by publisher Vivendi Games, the Ghostbusters game was pushed out by Activision Blizzard after they bought Vivendi Games' catalogue. However Atari has now picked up the publishing duties for the game which serves as a de factor Ghostbusters III. Can the game live up to some already high expectations? We should know in about five months.

Hands-on: Ghostbusters: The Video Game

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters -- and Atari. After an uncertain future following the Activision-Blizzard merger, the fate of many Sierra titles was unknown. Some were banished to the cancellation void, but others, such as Ghostbusters: The Video Game, were saved from an eternity in the Ecto-Containment Unit. At a recent Atari press event, developer Terminal Reality was eager to look toward the game's anticipated release in 2009, but not before they underwent a cleansing process via discussing the storied history of how they resurrected everyone's favorite band of ghost-busting brothers.

Atari officially picks up Ghostbusters game [Update]

Dan Aykroyd spilled the beans on this deal a month ago but Atari has finally made it official They will indeed be the new publisher for the long awaited Ghostbusters games. The title, which is basically Ghostbusters III, will be released sometime in 2009.

Ghostbusters was originally to be published by Vivendi Games but was dropped after the Activision Blizzard merger because it and other games did not have the "potential to be exploited every year across every platform, with clear sequel potential", according to its CEO Bobby Kotick. Atari now takes over the handling of the Terminal Reality developed game which will be scripted by the movie's original creator Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. Those two, along with Bill Murry, Ernie Hudson and others from the film series, have already recorded their voices for their characters.

Update: Some new screenshots of the game have now been issued by Atari.

Ghostbusters game now at Atari?

Thanks to the Activision-Blizzard merger a few months ago several games from the now defunct Vivendi Games found themselves without a home and one of them was the highly anticipated Ghostbusters. Now one of the creators of the franchise, Dan Aykroyd (the guy on the right) may have revealed the game's new publisher.

Kotaku reports that Aykroyd, speaking to a Dallas radio station, stated that the game had now been picked up by Atari and is now slated for a release sometime in 2009. Aykroyd co-wrote the script to the game which reunites nearly everyone involved in the massive comedy movie series. So it looks like we may be putting on our proton packs in the coming months.

Ghostbusters game now coming in 2009?

Earlier this week we reported that the newly merged Activision Blizzard would not be taking most of the upcoming games from Vivendi's Sierra Entertainment label, including the upcoming Ghostbusters game title which was hyped as coming out this fall and shown in playable form at the San Diego Comic-Con last weekend. Now Variety reports that this move has pushed the game's release date from fall to sometime in 2009.

However this new date might work to the game's advantage. According to the article, the movie's 25th anniversary also happens to be in 2009 and Ghostbusters' owners Sony Pictures might want to wait until then to release the game to tie in to any marketing they might generate for that anniversary. So far there's no word on who might pick up the game for publishing which is being developed by Terminal Reality.
