Tera to be distributed in US by Atari; to be released in 2011

There are already a number of new MMO titles planned for launch here in the US in 2011 and today it was announced that one of them, Tera, will use Atari to distribute the game in the US. Atari of course has already had experience with releasing two MMO games on their own (Champions Online and Star Trek Online) and also recently distributed a boxed retail version of EVE Online.

Just a recap: the fantasy themed MMO Tera was first announced back in February 2010 is being developed by Korea-based Bluehole Studio. It's being co-developed and published by US-based En Masse Entertainment which was founded in part by the co-founder of ArenaNet Patrick Wyatt.

TERA trailer shows the power of archers

TERA aims to bring action-focused combat to MMOs, and there is nothing more action-oriented than shooting people. In this case, it's with arrows. This trailer delves into the visuals and play style of archers as they shoot enemies through both mundane and magical means. It doesn't really go into the viewpoint of players using said archers, but it does show the battles and flashy visuals from an external viewpoint. All that we can tell is stuff that would be patently obvious: archers stand mostly at a range, attack with arrows mostly, and shift between different kinds of arrows for different situations.

TERA trailer catches some butterflies, kills some monsters

If this trailer is any indication, TERA looks to be the most engaging butterfly-catching simulator on the market! Oh, and it also has some fighting and stuff. Joking aside, the latest MMO from Korea is finally entering open beta, and to signal the launch they have released a new trailer. It shows off many of the key elements of the game: dodging, real-time combat, player-vs-player, crafting, quests, and all the things you would expect from an MMORPG. While the butterflies (and gratuitous breast physics, which are always surreal to see in a game) seem a little nonsensical, we're sure it will all make sense.

TERA trailers do a fly-by spooking

It's almost Halloween, and that means that all of the MMO (and pseudo-MMO) developers are cracking open the festive events and items. TERA is no exception, and while the game isn't actually out yet, they've release two new flythroughs and a Halloween trailer in honor of the spookiest night of the year. The Halloween trailer (above) shows off some of the scarier places and enemies of TERA, including a haunted mansion, murder-crazed dolls, Victorian vampires, and gibus-topped spook. The two flythrough trailers (below) show off the Celestial Hills and Pora Elinu areas, and are far less interesting, both stylistically and content-wise.

TERA trailer walks through a tough dungeon

For those that didn't make it to PAX 10, do not fear. The folks behind TERA have a walk through of the demo seen at a gaming convention, although they admit it's been updated a bit. It walks through a party's adventures in an excavation site and then into a cultist dungeon. Each fight and room's mechanics are discussed at length by the designers, although we could do without some of the comments. Considering the rather standard nature of TERA's trailers up to this point, this one is a breath of fresh air and gives good insights into the game's design.

TERA E3 demonstration video throws you into the action

This demonstration video for TERA takes the behind-closed-doors presentation shown at E3 2010 and condenses it down to presentation that's just over five minutes. In it, you'll see the spectacular graphics and high action gameplay that separates TERA from many other fantasy MMO games. TERA is expected to release sometime in 2011.

TERA trailer brings back the action to MMOs

This is the first we've heard of Korean MMO The Exiled Realm of Arborea (TERA) in a while, and it still looks like standard MMO fare. Skimpy armor, scantily-clad fantasy babes, and stereotypical environment and monster design are all present in this trailer. However, the claim that it is the first true action MMO (something Age of Conan attempted to be as well) makes us slightly interested. Another thing that also drew our interest is that it is not free-to-play, which places it in stiff competition with Lineage and Aion.

Big Download's E3 2010 PC Game Highlights - Episode 4

The last episode of PC game highlights at E3 2010 is also the most action packed! On our final day, we ponder what it means to be human in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Then we continue the future war with a look at Blacklight: Tango Down before completely changing gears for an up-close look at the dark fantasy role-playing game, The Witcher 2. We're still trying to decide whether F.E.A.R. 3 is a story of brotherly love or sibling rivalry, but nothing can stand in the way when super reflexes, guns, mechanized armor and psychic powers all work together.

In MMOs, we explore the land of TERA and learn to build a kingdom from scratch in LEGO Universe. We see how well Lara Croft plays well with others in Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light. Finally, the bullets really start to fly with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Altogether, it's a supersized final episode.

Tera trailer jumps into the heat of battle

Shown at GDC 2010, this trailer shows off some of the amazing graphics and gameplay of TERA, an upcoming fantasy themed MMORPG. The game is currently expected to launch in Korea over the summer with a North American release in the winter.

"In TERA, players master their destiny in a richly detailed game world with a pioneering dynamic combat system. Individual player actions can transform the balance of power in a world where old rivalries are erased, and disparate races must form a common federation to stave off destruction by marauding monsters and warring gods."

More info on Tera revealed

Yesterday we reported that a new US based company, En Masse Entertainment, had been formed to help localize and publish Tera, an upcoming fantasy MMO from Korean-based developer Bluehole Studio. Today more info about the game itself has been revealed, including the fact that this previously unknown (to the US audience) game has been in development for three years.

Bluehole has spent the equivalent of $24 million to develop Tera, according to their latest press release. The game will feature what they are calling their "non-targeting gameplay system" which would seem to indicate a more action-packed MMO game than most. The game is about to enter its third close beta test in Korea with 20,000 people participating. En Masse Entertainment plans to release the game for US and European audiences sometime after the game launches in Korea.
