Alien Breed Evolution PC coming this summer; renamed Alien Breed Impact

It's taken a little while longer than first planned but today it looks like the release of the PC version of the top down sci-fi shooter Alien Breed Evolution is getting close. The game's developer Team17 has announced the PC port of the game, which was originally released last fall via Xbox Live Arcade, will be released via Steam sometime this summer

However the game is actually getting a name change for its PC version. Instead of Alien Breed Evolution the PC game will be renamed as Alien Breed Impact (the promised PS3 version will also be named Alien Breed Impact, by the way). Why the change? According to the press release the game will get a number of enhancements compared to its previous Xbox Live Arcade release, including expanded customisability (upgrading weapons via in-game cash), improvements to the co-op modes and an improved and expanded Prologue campaign.

April Fools: Worms - Crawl of Duty announced

UK-based developer Team 17 is staying busy with a number of projects, including a new PC installment of their Worms franchise called Worms Reloaded. However that's not the only Worms game they might be working on. Their Facebook page has some screenshots posted on this April Fools Day for Worms: Crawl of Duty.

It looks to be Team 17's first foray into the first person shooter genre. Even though all we have to go is screenshots it looks like it will be an historically accurate retelling of worms fighting in World War II. There's no word yet on a release date but if we were betting men we would guess this game is a long, long way from being done.

Team 17 reveals concept artwork for "Project X3"

The folks at UK-based Team 17 have been quite busy of late. They have two upcoming game projects for the PC; a new Worms game, Worms Reloaded, and their PC port of their top down shooter Alien Breed Evolution. However the team has some projects that, for one reason or another, haven't been made

The company's Facebook page reveals one such game title, code named "Project X3". It's a sci-fi side scroller/shooter game that's a revamp of a 1992 Amiga game Project X. There's concept artwork available for the new game but the Facebook site states, "We have no current plans to do the game, but you never know."

Worms Reloaded and PC Worms 2 Armageddon one and the same

Looks like developer Team 17 is trying to clarify exactly what their just announced PC game Worms Reloaded will be like. Previous to their Twitter announcement this week, the developer announced they were beta testing a port of their Xbox Live Arcade game Worms 2: Armageddon on Steam.

Now it looks like both the PC port of Worms 2 Armageddon and Worms Reloaded are in fact one and the same game. A new Twitter message states, "To clear up a little confusion, just one PC Worms title coming to Steam, it will be called 'Worms Reloaded'. Their Facebook page has a little more info, saying Worms Reloaded "is a an extended edition of the console versions of late." Hopefuly we will get more details soon.

Worms Reloaded announced; coming to Steam

Team 17's recent move to begin self publishing games will soon be kicking into high gear soon on the PC. The UK developer has already announced that their top down sci-fi shooter Alien Breed Evolution will be released on Steam sometime this quarter. They have also announced (via their Facebook page) that a PC port of their Xbox Live Arcade game Worms 2 Armageddon is also coming to Steam.

Now the developer's Twitter page has posted word of their third PC game coming via Steam. Team 17's founder Martyn Brown posted up word that "...a new edition of 2D Worms for PC! "Worms Reloaded" is coming soon via Steam. Details & features to follow..." This sounds like it may be a remake of an earlier Worms game. We hope to learn more in the near future.

Worms 2: Armageddon coming to PC via Steam

Team 17's Worms series of turn based strategy games have always been popular and in 2009 the developer released Worms 2: Armageddon for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade download service. Now comes word from Team 17's Facebook page that a PC version is in the works via the Steam download service. The message states, "W2A on Steam is moving ahead, there will be a Beta test, so stay tuned for more info in the next few weeks."

The Xbox 360 version of the game contained 35 single player missions along with six multiplayer modes. The game cost the equivalent of $10 to download from Xbox Live Arcade so we expect a similar price for the PC version.

Alien Breed Evolution now set for a 2010 PC release

Any hopes that we would get to play Team 17's top down shooter revival Alien Breed Evolution for the PC this year were unfortunately dashed today. The UK developer sent out a press release stating the PC port of their game (which is based on their classic 1990s Alien Breed series) is now scheduled for release sometime in 2010. The game will appear first via the Xbox 360's downloadable Xbox Live Arcade service on December 16.

Rock Paper Shotgun has a brief chat with Team 17's design manager John Dennis about the revival of the Alien Breed series. He reveals that the title will actually be released as a trilogy of downloadable chapters, each with about five to eight hours worth of gameplay. Let's hope the Xbox 360 "exclusive" time frame is a short one.

Alien Breed Evolution confirmed for PC but not for a while

Last week we reported that UK-based Team 17 was planning to release Alien Breed Evolution, the next game in their sci-fi top down shooter series that hasn't had a new entry in over a decade. At the time the Unreal Engine 3 based game didn't announced what platforms it would appear on but Big Download has confirmed with a Team 17 rep that the title will be showing up on the PC.

That's the good news; the bad news is we may have to wait a while for the downloadable game to be made available to our platform. According to Team 17's Mark Baldwin, "Our main push with Alien Breed is the XBLA version as we have an exclusive deal with them for "x" amount of months, but the game will be coming to PS3 and PC (via Steam) later on. No dates or any other details as yet."

Team 17 announces Alien Breed Evolution

They have been hinting about this for a while but today UK-based developer Team 17 have finally pulled the trigger and announced Alien Breed Evolution, the next game in their sci-fi shooter series that hasn't had a new installment in, well, almost forever.

Lke the original games released nearly 20 years ago (for the Amiga no less), this new version is a top down shooter but the folks at Team 17 are using Epic's Unreal Engine 3 for the visuals and as you can see from the screenshot gallery below the game is already looking pretty good. Not much else has been revealed other than the game will have both single player and co-op modes. It's also looking like Team 17 will be publishing this game themselves via digital download. No release date was announced.
