Tales of Monkey Island for Mac now available

There have been hints that Telltale Games was about to get into the Mac games selling business and today that day is here. The developer's official web site has now posted up word that Tales of Monkey Island, their latest episodic game, is now available for purchase and download for $34.95 for Mac users

If you already own the PC version of the game and also own a Mac you can go ahead and download the new Mac version for free. Telltale is also holding an online poll to get the public to voice their opinion on which game from the developer (Sam and Max, Strong Bad or Wallace and Gromit) should be released for the Mac next.

Rumor: Telltale prepping to launch games on Mac?

Mac gamers continue to get the short end of the stick in terms of getting native ports of PC games. However, Mac gamers could be getting a ton of PC titles very soon. According to the Maclife.com site, Telltale Games will announce plans to bring most of their episodic adventure games to the Mac platform at next month's MacWorld Expo.

According to the article, the first games from the Telltale game library will be their successful Tales of Monkey Island with their other episodic series to be released on the Mac later on in the year. Our sister site Joystiq contacted Telltale for comment and was told the story was "totally unconfirmed."

Review: Tales of Monkey Island Season One

Adventure gaming fans were pleasantly surprised when it was announced last summer that TellTale Games was partnering with LucasArts to revive the Monkey Island series. Spread out across five episodic games, the first season of Tales of Monkey Island revives the irrepressible Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate battling against the Ghost Pirate LeChuck. In the newest adventure, Guybrush accidentally unleashes the virulent Pox of LeChuck upon the world and literally has to go to great depths to set things right. However, similar to games past, the new series has plenty of ups and downs.

Telltale Games puts entire store on sale for 25 percent off

In this netherverse between Christmas and New Year's Day many retail stores are getting rid of excess inventory and doing some winter cleaning of their shelves to prepare for the new year. It looks like Telltale Games is doing something similar with their online store.

This week Telltale is cleaning their decks and giving customers a big 25 percent off their entire order from their online store. That includes downloads of their games like Sam and Max, (their their "season" is due in 2010) Wallace and Gromit and Tales of Monkey Island along with DVD collections of their games, CD soundtracks, toys and other items.

Tales of Monkey Island trailer catches players up on the story so far

The fifth episode and Tales of Monkey Island season 1 finale is set to release soon, and this video recaps the adventure so far. Perhaps it might also reveal some clues as to why there was a wake for Guybrush Threepwood, Might Pirate held last week when fans know that he cannot die (at least not for very long) in a Monkey Island adventure game. We'll find out tomorrow when Rise of the Pirate God releases.

This Week In PC Games: December 7-13

This week is the last in 2009 where we will see major PC game titles ship to stores (although there will likely be a few downloadable titlesand expansions that will come out next week). This week's releases include the final game from a major dev studio and the final chapter in a adventure game revival.

The Saboteur - Pandemic Studios' office got shut down a few weeks ago by Electronic Arts. But the last game made at the offices goes out with a bang with this WWII open world action title centering on a lone rebel in Paris who tries to fight the Nazis.

The Wake of Guybrush Threepwood

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 was a sad date indeed. In San Francisco's Varnish Gallery, journalists and developers alike gathered to mourn the passing of Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate™, in what might have been the first ever wake for a video game character. Big Download was there, and our impressions follow.

Is Tales of Monkey Island's final episode going to make you cry?

Telltale Games' first "season" in its episodic adventure game Tales of Monkey Island is getting ready for its fifth and final chapter, Rise of the Pirate God. Today, Telltale announced the final chapter will be released for PC via download on December 8 and they hint that the game's lead character could meet with a nasty fate.

Yes, Guybrush Threepwood could be no more in this concluding chapter and even Telltale's Dave Grossman seems to think there's no hope for our pirate hero. In Telltale's press release announcing Rise of the Pirate God, he says, "It's a great tragedy to see such a productive life seemingly cut off prematurely. And I'm not just saying that because he owes me money." We won't have long to find out if he's correct. In the meantime the first four individual chapters in the series are now on sale at Telltale's web site.

Fourth Tales of Monkey Island chapter due on Friday

Last week we reported that Telltale Games was planning to release the fourth chapter in their LucasArts published adventure game Tales of Monkey Island this week. Now Telltale has narrowed that release date down, saying the fourth installment in the series will be released on Friday.

Telltale has also served up some advanced screenshots from the fourth chapter, titled The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood. In this Law and Order-ish episode our favorite ship captain has to defend himself in court against false charges and an "smooth-talking prosecutor". With just one more chapter left in the series, can Guybrush escape the long arm of the law? We have our money on him but we could be wrong . . .

This Week In PC Games: October 26-November 1

It's downright scary (sorry, had to be done) how many new PC game titles are scheduled for release this week. In addition to a number of original games, PC gamers can look forward to trying out the Left 4 Dead 2 demo (if they pre-ordered) and a new retail collection of all of Firefly Studios' Stronghold games:

Borderlands: Gearbox Software's sci-fi first person shooter blends elementes of an action-RPG in the mix as your characters go on quests on an alien world and deal with lots of monsters and enemies. Much has been made of the near infinite number of weapon variations that can be found in the game and the four-player co-op doesn't hurt either.
