The Old Republic trailer goes deep into the light side

There are many games that have incorporated the light side/dark side force mechanic seen in the Star Wars universe. In fact, virtually every Star Wars game where you play a specific character, rather than a nameless fighter pilot or commander, has this juxtaposition of intention. The Old Republic is no different, and BioWare has released a new trailer discussing the ins and outs of the two light side Jedi classes: the Knight and the Consular. It goes into considerable detail, ranging from the syncing of lightsaber animations to the gameplay roles of both classes. It's a very enlightening trailer, and a must watch for Star Wars fans.

The Old Republic trailer gives hope against the Sith

Love Star Wars? So do we. That's why this new Old Republic trailer has us all excited. While it doesn't show any gameplay footage, the cinematic is on par with those found in Blizzard games. It showcases the fight between Sith Empire forces and the defenders of Alderaan, and shows that despite Sith being overwhelming badasses, an equally awesome soldier can take them down. Cool stuff.

It's (finally) official: Star Wars The Old Republic MMO revealed

It's been one of the worst kept secrets in the game industry but its finally out there. BioWare, now owned by Electronic Arts, is working with LucasArts on a new massively multiplayer game based on BioWare's development of the Knights of the Old Republic timeline of Star Wars. The game, titled Star Wars: The Old Republic, already has a web site with screenshots, concept art and info about the game which is see 3,500 years before the film series and about 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic II.

In the game's official FAQ, it states, "Star Wars: The Old Republic will be similar to other MMOs but with several key innovations. Traditionally MMOs are built on three pillars; Exploration, Combat, and Progression. We at BioWare and LucasArts believe there is a fourth pillar: Story. Our mission is to create the best story-driven games in the world. We believe that the compelling, interactive storylines in Star Wars: The Old Republic are a significant innovation to MMOs and will offer an entertainment experience unlike any other." And yes you can play as both a Light and Dark side Jedi:

Stay tuned as Big Download has a representative at the big press event going on right now where more info about the game is being revealed. In the meantime you can check out this live blog from the event over at our sister site Joystiq No release date has been announced.
