Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - April 21

Good Friday is tomorrow so we expect that the PC gaming news flow may be on the slow side. That's ok; more time to go through Portal 2 again for the developer's commentary. Why don't more games have that feature?:

Super Meat Boy gets its retail Ultra Edition

If for some reason you have yet to purchase Super Meat Boy in its downloadable version, you can now get the great indie-made arcade game in an old fashioned retail box but one with lots of extras.

The game's official web site has announced that the Ultra Edition for the PC port is now available for sale at Amazon.com for $20 and will soon be on sale at Walmart. In addition to the game itself it contains extra like a art book, mini-poster, the game's soundtrack in digital form, the Warp Zone art collection, a chance to play the game as the Alien Hominid character and, well, lots more.

Super Meat Boy sells 600,000 copies, with two-thirds on PC platform

Developer Team Meat has already announced that the PC version of its arcade game Super Meat Boy has outsold the Xbox 360 version even though the console version was released a month ahead of the PC version. Now we know exactly how much the PC port has sold versus the console version.

In a new interview for the Pocketful of Megabytes web site, the two man team reveals that while the Xbox 360 version has sold 200,000 units, the PC version has sold "roughly" 400,000 units. The team has admitted that sales of the game via Steam have been boosted by early discounts and sales. In fact as of this writing the game is on sale on Steam for 50 percent off its normal price.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - April 4

It's a long way to the weekend at this point. Let's not think about it at the moment. Let's just think good happy thoughts of relaxing while playing a round of Team Fortress 2.

Super Meat Boy launches Super Meat World

As promised earlier this week, developer Team Meat has now launched Super Meat World for the PC Steam edition of its popular arcade game Super Meat Boy. The online portal will let players access eight new chapters in the game with over 140 new levels.

The promised level editor for the game is still coming, according to the post. Team Meat states, "The level editor is currently being rigged to Steam, and will soon be release as a public beta." Meanwhile Super Meat Boy is currently on sale on Steam for 50 percent separately off or as part of the Potato Sack indie game bundle for 75 percent off.

Steam launches weekend indie game Potato Sack sale

We were wondering what was going on at Valve this week when it didn't have any major sales on the Steam download service but late today Steam finally showed its hand. The service has cut the price of 13 indie games under the new Potato Sack bundle.

This new bundle has the following games on sale for 50 percent off their already low prices:

1... 2... 3... KICK IT!
AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
AudioSurf
BIT.TRIP BEAT
Cogs
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Killing Floor
RUSH
Super Meat Boy
The Ball
The Wonderful End of the World
Toki Tori

If you buy all 13 games at once you will be able to get them all for just $38.72, a 75 percent price cut from their normal prices if sold separately. There's no word on when this sale will end.

Super Meat Boy's Super Meat World level portal is only days away

Super Meat Boy's two man dev team at Team Meat have previously announced plans to launch a portal for the PC version that would allow people to download new user made levels for the hit arcade action game. Now the Team Meat Twitter page is reporting that the portal, Super Meat World, is just days away.

The above screenshot is from Super Meat Boy's chapter viewer. According to the tweets from Team Meat, the portal will launch with over five chapters and over 200 new levels. Also the team reports that after Super Meat World launches it will begin work on the long awaited Mac version of the game

Super Meat Boy's downloadable PC release was apparently a big hit for developer Team Meat. The development team held a post-mortem on the release of its arcade action game at GDC 2011. The Team Meat Twitter web page reveals some of what was discussed, including the fact that Super Meat Boy has sold a total of 400,00 copies so far. The Steam/PC version has outsold the Xbox 360 port even though the console version came out before the PC port.

Team Meat also announced that a retail boxed "Ultra Version" of Super Meat Boy will be released in stores in the US in April along with Amazon.com. The retail version will include extra like a poster, soundtrack, comic book and more and will cost $20. You can check out the final box design after the jump.
