Activision to charge $15 for Modern Warfare 2 PC Stimulus Package map pack

While previous official downloadable map packs for the Call of Duty series have been free to download for PC owners, it looks like publisher Activision is changing course for the latest game in the first person shooter series Modern Warfare 2. The Steam web site is now taking pre-orders for the Stimulus Package map pack. The pack will normally cost $14.99 but you can get it for 10 percent off if you put down your money before its released on May 4.

Just a reminder: The map pack contains five multiplayer levels. Two of the maps are recreations from developer Infinity Ward's previous game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare while the other three are all new maps.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC trailer proposes its own stimulus package

The first DLC expansion for Modern Warfare 2, titled The Stimulus Package, releases on Xbox Live on March 30th and features five new multiplayer maps. Hopefully, PC gamers won't have to wait too long afterward for a chance to get into the action.

More info on Modern Warfare 2 DLC map pack emerges

While we wait to see of the PC versions of the first Modern Warfare 2 DLC map pack will be free or if PC players will actually have to pay for the thing, at least some more info about what the map pack will contain has been leaked out. Our sister site Joystiq A page on the Xbox 360 web site is the source of the reveal (the Xbox 360 will get first crack at the map pack on March 30).

According to the page, the "Stimulus Package" DLC will have five multiplayer maps. Three will be all new; Bailout is set in a multi-level apartment complex, Storm is set in a more open industrial park and Salvage is located in a junkyard with snow. The other two maps, Crash and Overgrown, are remakes from Infinity Ward's previous first person shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. All in all it sounds like a pretty meaty map pack. Now if we can just get the developer to agree to release some mod tools and perhaps a dedicated server we would be all set.
