Preview the upcoming Starcraft comic book

Last February DC Comics' Wildstorm division announced their plans to launch a comic book series based on Blizzard's Starcraft game franchise (they are already handling a monthly World of Warcraft comic book series). Now MTV has posted up a six page preview of the Starcraft comic's first issue.

Writen by comic book veterans Keith Giffen and Simon Furman the artwork is being handled by relative newcomer Federico Dallocchio. The first issue will feature a group of outlaws called the WarPigs that are out to assassinate one of StarCraft's central characters Jim Raynor. Look for the first issue to ship to comic book stores on May 27.

More info on Wildstorm's upcoming StarCraft comic

Last week DC Comics' Wildstorm division officially revealed their plans for a StarCraft comic book series during the New York Comic Con. This week the official Wildstorm web site has revealed the first issue of the series will be released this June.

Like Wildstorm's other Blizzard comic book series based on World of Warcraft, the StarCraft comic will be an ongoing monthly series (not a mini-series). Writen by comic book veterans Keith Giffen and Simon Furman the artwork will be handled by relative newcomer Federico Dallocchio. The first issue will feature a group of outlaws called the WarPigs that are out to assassinate one of StarCraft's central characters Jim Raynor. It should be interesting to see if Wildstorm will be able to do the franchise justice.

Wildstorm to launch StarCraft comic; second World of Warcraft comic coming

Wildstorm Comics has had some success with a turning a number of game-based franchises into comics. Now Newsarama is reporting that Wildstorm is planning to release a comic book series based on Blizzard's Starcraft game series.

The details are few at this point but the report states that Simon Furman (best known for his Transformers comic book work) will write the comic and will "introduce a new team of mercenaries into the Starcraft universe." The story will apparently lead into the storyline for Blizzard's own RTS sequel StarCraft 2. There's no word on when the series will be released. The story also states that Wildstorm plans to release a new World of Warcraft comic book series later this year. Their regular monthly series based on the MMO has been a sales hit for Wildstorm.
