Krome Studios admits to recent layoffs; won't give exact numbers

Recently one of the biggest Australian-based game developers, Transmission Games, shut its doors completely even after releasing two major game titles in 2009. Now comes word that another dev studio from Down Under is facing layoffs as well. IndustryGamers reports that Krome Studios has admitted to "an undisclosed number of employees" being given their walking papers.

Krome Studios also just had a major game released for publisher LucasArts, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. However that wasn't enough for the company to avoid a restructuring that caused Krome to lay off some workers. All is not lost, though. Krome's CEO Robert Walsh.states the team is "actively pursuing several business opportunities which, if secured, will enable Krome to reemploy some of the staff given notice."

Star Wars - Republic Heroes learns to activate a super battle droid

Normally, we'd classify this kind of how-to video for Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes under "don't try this at home," but seeing as how this kid is clearly working out of his garage, we don't see the harm. Our question is, were you expecting the droid to attack the cameraman too? Especially when the kid says, just get a friend to distract the droid...

Republic Heroes released today, so you have a chance to try these neat little tactics out for yourself.

Star Wars The Clone Wars Republic Heroes slightly delayed

Last night's Star Wars panel at the San Diego Comic-Con had the big reveal for the PC/Mac edition of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. However there was also news on another Star Wars-based game that was previously announced a few months ago.

We are talking about Star Wars The Clone Wars Republic Heroes. The third person action game based on the Cartoon Network animated series, was supposed to be released by publisher LucasArts on September 15. However the panel revealed that the game would not make that date. Instead look for the game, developed by Krome Studios, to ship to stores a few weeks later on October 6.

More info on Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

Last weekend we reported that LucasArts was going to bring their game franchise based on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series to the PC. Today LucasArts revealed even more about the game itself. Developed by Krome Studios, Star Wars The Clone Wars Republic Heroes will let you fight the separatists as a good Jedi Knight and as a good but ultimately traitorous Clone Trooper.

Jedi Knights in the game can naturally do a lot of light saber-based combat while the Clone Troopers use the heavy weapons and even jet packs to take out opponents. The game, due out in September, is supposed to lead into the season season of the animated series. As we reported earlier the PC version will be a Games For Windows Live title.

Next Star Wars action game to be Games For Windows Live title

Looks like LucasArts is giving PC gamers a bit of attention based on a new trailer that debuted this week over at the Entertainment Weekly web site. The game is Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes and is based on the current Cartoon Network TV series.

Developed by Krome Studios, the third person action game is set for release on Sept. 15 and based on the logos shown at the end of the provided trailer it looks like it will not only be coming to the PC but it will be a Games For Windows Live title. That means things like achievements, voice chat and more will be supported (although we wouldn't hold our breath for Xbox 360 multiplayer cross-platform support).
