Star Control 1 and 2 added to GoG.com

Two classic space strategy games have been added to the DRM-free PC game download site GoG.com today in one bundle. The games are the first two titles in the Star Control series. The space strategy games, both released in the early 1990s, come from developer Toys for Bob and are still considered to be two of the best PC games ever made.

While the developer of the games was acquired by Activision some time ago the game series is owned by Atari. Now the first two Star Control titles (plus extras like a star map and soundtrack) can be yours for just $5.99.

We Love The 90s (for PC Games) : 1990-1991

PC gaming has been around since, well, PCs have existed. However the platform always seemed to get the short end of the attention stick compared to console game titles (with a few exceptions). That all changed in the 1990s as PC gaming entered a new golden age. With developments like shareware titles, CD-Rom games, Internet-based titles, Windows 95 and more powerful PCs, quite a few titles got a ton of attention and sales.

In this new multi-part feature we look back at that glorious decade of the 1990s as we focus on just some of the games that we loved to play (and in some cases still play) from that decade. Today we look back at a few of our favorite titles from 1990 and 1991:

Stardock wants to make new installments of classic games

Stardock has made its living in part by making original games like the Galactic Civilizations series, the Political Machine series and the upcoming Elemental: Master of Magic. However, Gamasutra reports that the developer-publisher is also interested in reviving classic PC strategy games as well.

Stardock CEO Brad Wardell stated that they would like the rights to do a new Star Control series and have also discussed getting the rights from Atari to do a new Master of Orion title. Wardell states that Stardock would "....like to do a roleplaying game too" along the lines of an isometic title like the original Baldur's Gate series.
