New PC game sales return to GoGamer.com

The sale includes some games that are prices at $4.90 including Sid Meier's Railroads, Nox , The Settllers VI: Rise of a Nation and a CSI Double Pack. Gamersgate puts out some weekend deals for end of revamp week

As we reported a few days ago, the Gamersgate web site has gotten a significant revamp in terms of both features and looks for the game download service. Today the web site offers up some final relaunch weekend deals for a few games on their site.

One is for the first person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky which is being sold this weekend for $14.95, 50 percent off its normal price. If you like ultra-cheap games then you can grab Paradox Interactive's turn based stategy game Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power for a mere $1.99 this weekend. Finally for just one day the space strategy game Sword of the Stars Ultimate Collection is being sold for $14.95. Yep, that's another 50 percent drop.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat officially announced

Confirming rumors that were circulated a few weeks ago, GSC Game World has now officially announced plans to release S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the third game in their post-apocalyptic first person shooter series. Slated for release this fall the game takes place after the events of the first game in the series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (the second game in the series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky was a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl).

The story has the player taking on the role of an agent for Ukraine's Security Service that is sent into the radiation zone to investigate what happened to a failed military mission. The game uses real life locations in the Ukranine for its settings and will feature new quests, monsters, a new user interface and more. A publisher for the game has yet to be announced. GSC Game World has already released the first two screenshots from the title.

Rumor: More S.T.A.LK.E.R. coming?

GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of post-apocalyptic first person shooters have become world wide best sellings, The first game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, was released in March 2007. A stand alone prequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky, shipped out in September 2008.

Now translations of a recent Russian based interview may indicate the developer isn't done with the franchise. Both ClanBase and the TTLG Forums claim the original Russian interview with GSC Game World's Sergey Grigorovitch indicates a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R add-on is in the works for fall 2009 (although its not clear if its a true add-on or a stand alone continuation like S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky). In addition a full fledged sequel to the series is supposedly in the works as weli. Since some things can and do get lost in translation we are putting this item in the "rumor" section for now.

Play like it's 2004 with alpha S.T.A.L.K.E.R. build

It's rare that the general public gets to play a version of a game that's actually older than what the finished product turned out to be. GSC Game World has given gamers that chance by releasing an alpha build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion Lost. That's not a typo; that's the original name for their post-apocalyptic shooter before they changed it into S.T.A.LK.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

The final game was years in the making before it was released in 2007. The release of this earlier build of the game comes from 2004 and contains all of the levels plus many that were cut along with other features that didn't make it into the final version. As you might expect there's no official support for this build; it was released just for fun so don't cry if your system crashes.

DRM issues with two Steam distributed games resolved

Steam's massive holiday sale has now concluded but for a time during the holiday period two games distributed by Steam, the first person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky and the space sim X3: Terran Conflict had some activation issues caused by their use of the TAGES DRM service.

Shacknews reports that the price cuts of the Steam holiday sale caused a surge in game purchases. As a result a number of people on the Steam forums complained that the DRM activation servers for both games were causing problems with activation for first time players. However those issues have now apparently been resolved. While many games distributed by Steam have no third party DRM a number of other titles still use their retail DRM set-up. It looks like more and more publishers will use Steam as their DRM protection only such as THQ's PC port of Saints Row 2.

Original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on sale via Steam

In the midst of the big EA Steam announcement today, Valve has also revealed what game will get their standard Steam weekend sales deal this week. The lucky game to get the treatement is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, the first game in the first person shooter series from developer GSC GameWorld.

The title, first released in 2007 by publisher THQ, is now on sale via Steam this weekend only for just $4.99 compared to its normal price of $19.99. If you download and enjoy playing the original, you can download and play the sequel. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky was released last September and is also available via Steam.
