Heatwave Interactive signs up more gaming (and comics) talent

Austin base game developer Heatwave Interactive continues to hire a broad section of game developers for its start-up operation. This week the company announced several more hires to their business, including one that's a little bit of a surprise

The surprise new team member is Bart Sears who has joined Heatwave as its Senior Concept Artist. Comic book readers will likely recognize the name as Sears has had a long career drawing titles for Marvel, DC and many other publishers. Among Heatwave's other hires is Dave Prout, formerly a co-founder of Spark Unlimited who is now Heatwave's new Director of Development. Heatwave has a number of unannounced game projects in the works but the first isn't expected to be released until 2010.

Legendary heads for the PC on Nov. 18

There's been a little confusion over the release date for Legendary, the upcoming modern day mythological themed FPS from developer Spark Unlimited. The problems began when the game's original publisher Gamecock was purchased a couple of weeks ago by Southpeak Games.

Now the final release date has been announced for the game. Legendary will now head to stores for the PC on the week of Nov. 18 (the console versions are due in stores next week). Legendary's PC version will now be competing head-to-head with the launch of the highly anticipated shooter Left 4 Dead from Valve; it's also scheduled to ship to stores the same week.

New Legendary screenshots show themselves

We are only a few weeks from the release of Legendary, the big Gamecock Media title for the fall/holiday season and today their PR folks sent over some new screenshots of the upcoming first person shooter from developer Spark Unlimited.

The new screenshots show off lots of the monster attacks that are at the heart of Legendary which shows what happens if Pandora's Box was not only a real thing but if someone unwittingly opens up its contents. The new shots show off what looks like a massive tentacled creature that is destroying London. So far there's no word on if a PC demo for Legendary is in the works.

Legendary video destroys the world

From New York to London, the end of the world takes on many looks and shapes. In Legendary, major cities get torn apart by mythological creatures released from Pandora's Box. In this latest video, the game's developers go into detail about what it takes to bring about the end of the world and why it makes for great tourist attractions.

Legendary developers talk about massive scale monsters

This developers video talks at length about the titan class creatures that will be seen in Legendary. These are gigantic monsters that wreck the environment as they walk. There's some discussion of other creatures, but it's mostly about the titans and how they will step on players.

New Legendary screenshots are action packed

"Hello. This is your captain speaking. We are cruising over the city and over to your right you can see a werewolf that's trying to attack the plane." Oh, the fun that we can have with this new batch of Legendary screenshots. They continue to be action packed as more scenes from the upcoming first person shooter continue to be revealed.

The title recently got a fixed release date of September 30 which means we should soon see if the Spark Unlimited developed title is as good as we really hope it is. The Unreal Engine 3 powered title will be released in the US by Gamecock and in Europe by Atari and will have a comic book adaptation released around the same time as the game's release.

Legendary gets release date and box art

Will Barney feel that Legendary is "legen - wait for it - dary?" We don't know (and we will never really know since Barney is a fictional character) but we do know that the Spark Unlimited-Gamecock first person shooter has a final release date. The Unreal engine based game will ship to stores on the PC and other platforms on September 30.

We also have the box art for the game depicting a battle between the "hero" of the story and several monsters who have been unleashed by the opening of Pandora's Box in the game. People who pre-order Legendary will get an art book filled with game concepts along with a DVD featuring trailers and other content

E3 08: Legendary comic book coming

In attending Gamecock's non-E3 event at the Hotel Figueroa on Thursday, we got to play a new build of the upcoming first person shooter Legendary. One of the giveaways at the Gamecock event was a free Legendary preview comic book which had the first few pages of an upcoming adaptation of the Spark Unlimited title along with some behind-the-scenes features on the making of the game.

A Spark Unlimited rep stated that they will publish the full graphic novel adaptation later this fall around the time the game itself has been released. The comic book will be written by well-known author Mark Waid, perhaps best known for his work on the classic DC Comics mini-series Kingdom Come as well as long runs on The Flash, Justice League of America and others.
