Multi-directional wave shooter K2 released

There's always something to be said about 3D space shooters. Most of the things to be said usually consist of accusations that a game isn't realistic enough or the ships aren't varied enough. There's always a war between the twin camps of the unrealistic arcade shooters versus the super-realistic elite-likes.

For those people only interested in an arcade space shooter, though, another entry in the TIGSource Procedural Generation Competition should show the way. Titled K2, it's a very simple space shooter that the developer admits to wanting to expand into an arcade elite-like. It uses the keyboard and mouse together wonderfully, including things such as gestures to perform actions such as locking on. Give it a whirl and tell us what you think!

Sci-fi RPG The Precursors warps in a new trailer

We've seen all sorts of RPGs on the PC, but we're not sure if there's ever been one that goes from full-on space-sim to land-roving, first-person shooter-style gameplay on actual planets.

That's exactly what this trailer for The Precursors shows off, creating a surprising amount of curiosity for what the final product will be like. It's definitely an extremely ambitious-looking title, as many space-sim games can't even get their gameplay quite right. Never say never, though, as The Precursors could always surprise us all and become greater than the sum of its parts.

Supposedly the game is coming out this year, but whether or not that many people will actually notice it depends on when and how it hits store shelves (or digital distributions?) sometime in 2008.
