Did cheating tip the balance in the Team Fortress 2 Soldier-Demoman War?

The recent Soldier-Demoman War in Team Fortress 2 resulted in the Soldier class getting an extra cool item to use in Valve's recent content update to their multiplayer shooter. But was there some shenanigans in the final war results? In a tongue-in-cheek style, the game's official web site seems to suggest the answer is "Yes".

While they are quick to say they have no proof cheating took place, the web site produced numbers that show the Soldier class was killing a Demoman every 2.5 seconds for a week during the war. As they state, "In other words, he is either cheating, or he is a hallucinating sleep-deprived psychotic with severe constipation and unerringly good aim. In either event, I am confident he is ashamed of himself." Indeed.

More Team Fortress 2 class additions revealed before update later today

Late tonight the many fans of Team Fortress 2 will get their latest free content update. Soon Valve's multiplayer shooter will add at least three new weapons-items for the Demoman class and another three for the Soldier class. For the past week the two classes have been waging a war to kill each other in online matches. The winning side will get to control a extra secret item that will also be added to the update. In the latest war report the kill gap has closed considerably which means it's pretty much anyone's game at this point.

The latest post on the TF2 site reveals all the new achievements for the Demoman and Soldier classes. Two more Soldier items were also announced. One is the Equalizer which looks like a pick ax to us but that may just be our imagination. This melee weapon increases its damage and makes you move faster when you take more and more damage. The other new item is the Buff Banner which when set in the secondary item slot will let teammates get mini-crits for a brief period when the Soldiers uses it. The Demoman's third new weapon is the Scottish Resistance which fires out twice as many sticky bombs as the regular weapon although it does have a longer priming rate.

While you wait for Valve to update TF2, check out the winners of their poster propoganda contest. The winners get some unique in-game items for their trouble and we also hope Valve sells the winners as posters in their online store. They are pretty sweet.

Two Demoman class weapons revealed for Team Fortress 2 update

As we count the days until the next Team Fortress 2 update, we finally learn about two of the three new weapons-items for Valve's multiplayer shooter's Demoman class. And it looks like the class is getting all medieval on . . . well you get the idea. The Eyelander sword can decapitate an enemy's head. The Demoman gets a boost in speed and health each time you chop a head off

The Chargin's Targe shield can protect you from attacks but the alt-fire makes your character move extremely fast toward an enemy. Charging also increases hit damage from melee attacks.

Meantime the Soldier-Demoman War continues online. The Soldier continues to lead with 4,666,558 Demoman kills versus the Demoman's 4,441,214 Soldier kills. Finally we learn just why the Demoman is using Highlander weapons in the latest online comic.

Team Fortress 2 Soldier-Demoman War update and poster contest

The current Soldier-Demoman War that's happening in online matches for Team Fortress 2 is getting bloodier, according to the latest front line update from Valve. On the second day of the war the Soldier class is still in the lead with 1,555,745 dead Demomen. About 1,429,578 Soldiers have been killed by the Demoman side. Remember, the side with the most kills by the end of the event gets a secret weapon unlock as part of the next major Team Fortress 2 update.

Valve has also launched a new contest which is giving players a chance to create their own propaganda poster supporting either the Soldier or Demoman class. You can submit your poster designs to Valve until the end of the day on December 15. The grand prize winner gets a exclusive in-game item (likely a hat) that will be named after the winner and even have his or her name "engraved" on it. Other prizes will also be awarded to runners-up and even if your poster doesn't net you any prizes your picked character class could be awarded some crucial kill points in the Soldier-Demoman War.

Soldier ahead of Demoman in Team Fortress 2 War

Last night Valve announced that the Soldier and Demoman classes in Team Fortress 2 were at war. Players picking those classes in online games would try to kill each other. The class with the most kills against the other would get a special secret weapon in the upcoming Team Fortress 2 update.

Now Valve has posted up the first news update in the Soldier-Demoman War. At the moment, the Soldier class is leading with 1,390,017 Demoman kills. The Demoman currently has 1,290,988 Soldier class kills. However we suspect that ratio is fairly small and that the Demoman could still charge back up. We should know sometime next week how this all turns out.
