Big Downloads: June 7 - 13, 2008

It's been a relatively slow week here at Big Download. That said, we've still seen a handful of interesting files. The biggest rage: the demo version of GRID, a critically acclaimed racing game. We also have the 1.1 patch on hand. If racing isn't your thing, though, there are alternatives.

Yeah, we're twiddling our thumbs for the Spore creature creator too, but why not kill time with these other diversions? Have a great weekend!

GRID eBay Motors Demo 1.1
Try out this acclaimed racing game from Codemasters, which includes excellent replay features.

GRID 1.1 Retail Patch
This fixes several bugs and performance issues in the retail version of GRID.

LEGO Batman HD Nightwing Trailer
Batman is back, but this time he's more funny than threatening. If you've previously played LEGO Star Wars or LEGO Indiana Jones, though, you know that's a recipe for awesome!

SimCity Societies demo released

Supreme Ruler 2020 demo released
Battlegoat Studios has released a demo for Supreme Ruler 2020, the strategy sequel to their critically acclaimed Supreme Ruler 2010. Multiplayer and Campaign modes have been disabled in the demo, but two single-player scenarios -- "Italy Votes" and "Preemptive Strike" -- are available for play.

Camp Fatal1ty: A lot better than rowing classes
Kids are out for the summer so their parents will likely push them against their will to go to summer camp. All that awful clean air, sun and "activities" are dreaded by their children. If you really want your kids to be happy to go to camp this summer, why not go to "Camp Fatal1ty"? Yes, your children can learn how to shoot each other via playing Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 3.

GRID gets its tires patched
Codemasters just dropped a patch (1.01, which takes the game to version 1.1) onto the Information Super Highway for their gorgeous racing game, GRID. The patch squashes several bugs on the windshield (i.e., other player's progress/positions are now correctly updated when you enter the race results screen; track and route options no longer change when host gets back to lobby in private/LAN) and fills the tank with numerous game-play enhancements (i.e., you can now look left and right while in bonnet camera; fix for missing Force feedback on Vista).

SimCity Societies demo coming June 12

A demo for SimCity Societies has been announced. We'll have it for you here at Big Download on June 12th!

The demo highlights some of the new features that have been added in response to player demand, including three new kinds of disasters, improved fire department and road construction management, city policies, new events such as revolutions and strikes, and new, harder strategic modes of play.

EA no doubt hopes to use this demo to promote the game in anticipation of two related releases: a compilation of SimCity titles called The SimCity Box, and an expansion pack for Societies, called Destinations.

EA reveals new SimCity collection

If you just happen to be one of those games that has never gotten the bug to play one of the more recent SimCity games from EA's Maxis brand, the publisher just announced a way you can quickly catch up with the pack. This summer EA will release The SimCity Box, which collects the most recent game SimCity Societies (developed by Tilted Mill) and its upcoming expansion pack SimCity Societies Destinations with three older titles; SimCity 4, its expansion pack SimCity 4 Rush Hour and the puzzle game The Sims Carnival Snap City. Since its creator Will Wright released the very first SimCity game in 1989 the city management game series has sold over 17 million copies in its various incarnations. The SimCity Box will set you back $39.99 when it ships to stores this June.
