Civilization game series gets new board game this fall

Several years ago Eagle Games released a board game based on Sid Meier's Civilization PC game series. It's been a while but now comes word that another company is taking on the task of bringing the series back to board games. Today Fantasy Flight Games announced plans to release an all new board game based on the long running PC strategy game series.

Sid Meier's Civilization The Board Game, like the PC game series that inspired it, lets players take on the role of world leaders that can build their empires from the ground up. Fantasy Flight is no stranger to PC game-to-board game adaptations. It has created board game titles based on Age of Conan, Doom, StarCraft, Warcraft and World of Warcraft. The new Civilization board game will be released this fall for $59.99. There's no word if it will be released at the same time as the upcoming Civilization V PC game that's due in late September.

Civilization V gets its own day in Maryland; plus final box art

The other PC exclusive strategy game that's not StarCraft II is Civilization V. The 2K Games published title isn't due for release until September 21 but on that date the turn-based strategy title from Firaxis Games will have its own day in its honor in the state of Maryland. The game's official Facebook page posted an image of the official proclamation from Maryland governor Martin O'Malley calling September 21 as "Sid Meier's Civilization V day". Of course the game's developer Firaxis Games is based in that state and before then the game's original creator Sid Meier set up shop in Maryland at the now defunct Microprose.

This gives us a good excuse to show off Civilization V's final box cover artwork. You can check that out after the jump:
