2009 (And Beyond) PC Game Preview: Action-FPS Titles Part 2

Yesterday we started our look at the PC games of 2009 with a ton of various upcoming action and FPS titles. But there are so many of these type of games due out in the next 12 months that we had to split that preview up into two parts. This entry not only contains a number of traditional action titles but also has some fighting games and flying action game titles as well.

Check back on Monday as we will next take a look at the various strategy-RTS based games due out in the next year.

No Shellshock 2 in 2008?

The list of PC games getting pushed back from a planned 2008 release date continues to grow. We've already reported on the PC game delays of titles like Mirror's Edge, Saints Row 2, Battleforge and Lord of the Rings Conquest. Now it looks like the promised Christmas 2008 release of Shellshock 2 is no longer in play.

The Vietnam War themed action game (with a horror theme this time) from developer Rebellion and publisher Eidos is now being shown on Gamestop's web site with a February 2, 2009 release date. Amazon.com has a February 28 release date for the title. However you slice it, the key word here is "delay". So no shooting in Vietcong tunnels for you for a few more months.

Shellshock 2 trailer brings out the horror of Vietnam

This trailer for Shellshock 2: Blood Trails introduces some of the story elements behind the survival horror shooter. The game takes place during the Vietnam War, where in addition to the horrors of fighting, people are subjected to gruesome experiments. Players then have to fight a war and battle against drug crazed zombie-like creatures. Warning: the trailer has some pretty graphic content.

Eidos officially announces Shellshock 2

It's never a good sign when a game that's been known to be in development for months has just gotten its first official press release from its publisher. Today Eidos announced its plans to release Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, a quasi-sequel to their 2004 Vietnam War themed shooter Shellshock: Nam 67. While the first game was developed by Killzone creators Guerrilla Games this sequel was created by UK based Rebellion.

Shellshock 2
will take more of a horror theme this time out as the story follows the survivor of a special ops team in Vietnam that was sent into the jungle to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a plane that carried a top-secret cargo. The game is currently scheduled for a Christmas 2008 release date but the big question is whether the sequel will be as bad as the original.
