Serious Sam Double D dev diary talks about stacking guns

The announcement that there would be three Serious Sam games made by indie developers was a surprise earlier this year. One of them is Serious Sam Double D, a side-scroller shooter from developer Mommy's Best Games. Today the developer posted up its first dev diary on the game which talks about the game's gun stacking feature.

Not only will you be able to collect and use multiple copies of the same guns (four rocket launchers = awesome) but the game will allow you to stack weapons on top of weapons to create massive amounts of fire power. You will need it too as the dev team hints that the creature in the screenshot above is small compared to what you might encounter in the full version.

Serious Sam Indie Series to bring three indie-made games to Serious Sam franchise

Serious Sam 3 may be being made by Croteam but that's not the only game that will feature the exploits of Sam "Serious" Stone this year. Our sister site Joystiq reports that publisher Devolver Digital will release three smaller Serious Sam-based games made by indie developers under the umbrella name of the Serious Sam Indie Series.

One is Serious Sam: The Random Encounter which will be a turn-based RPG developed by Super Crate Box developer Vlambeer. Another is Serious Sam: Double D (get your mind out of the gutter) a side-scroller shooter with hand drawn artwork from developer Mommy's Best Games. Finally mobile platforms will get to play Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! It's a hand-drawn auto-runner game from developer Be-Rad Entertainment. Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack will be playable at Devolver Digital's booth at PAX East 2011 this weekend. All three games will be released "in the coming months" leading up to Serious Sam 3's release this summer.

Serious Sam 3 gives up more details and screenshots

Serious Sam 3: BFE (nope, still know idea what BFE means) is on its way to being released sometime this summer. Today developer Croteam sent over a few more screenshots and Rock Paper Shotgun has the first concrete details of what to expect from the next installment of the first person shooter series.

The game itself is actually a prequel to the previous games in the series as Mental's various armies attack 22nd century Egypt. It's up to Sam "Serious" Stone to make things right. The Headless Kamikaze and other enemies from the first games are back along with new foes like the Scrapjack (shown above). And yes, there will again be support for up to 16 players in co-op campaign play along with Deathmatch and more multiplayer modes.

First Serious Sam 3 screenshot sneaks out of Facebook

Serious Sam 3 has been a bit of a mystery in terms of what the upcoming next game in Croteam's first person shooter series will look like. Now the official Serious Sam Facebook page has given everyone a chance to check out the first official screenshot from Serious Sam 3: BFE (we still don't know what "BFE" means).

The screenshot supposedly shows a "Scrapjack" in what looks like is a Middle Eastern village from the signage. Something tells us there might be some parodys of the Call of Duty games in this new installment. We've been told to expect more screenshots tomorrow.

Fans of the Serious Sam HD first person shooter shooter series will now be able to play the content of both the First Encounter and the Second Encounter in one game. As previously announced, the game's developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital have now released the Fusion DLC pack for Serious Sam HD The Second Encounter via Steam.

The pack adds all of the campaign and multiplayer levels from The First Encounter to the content of The Second Encounter, effectively "fusing" both games together. Players can get the Fusion pack for free if they own both The First Encounter and The Second Encounter versions of Serious Sam HD.

Serious Sam 3 due in summer of 2011, says Croteam CEO

Serious Sam 3 has had a rather nebulous release date time frame for a while but today the official web site of the first person shooter's developer Croteam had a short but sweet statement from its CEO Roman Ribaric: "Just a quick note to let all Serious Sam fans know that Serious Sam 3: BFE is coming this summer 2011. Official annoncement (sic) will be released soon."

Croteam's been busy over the past year developing and releasing graphical remakes of its first two Serious Sam games with its new in-house Serious Engine 3 tech with partner Devolver Digital. Our question: What does "BFE" mean in the game's title?

Serious Sam HD: Second Encounter Fusion DLC announced; will add First Encounter content

The "HD" graphical remakes of the first person shooters Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Serious Sam The Second Encounter have been big sales hits for developer Croteam and its publisher Devolver Digital. Now the two games will soon become one thanks to the announcement of the Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter Fusion DLC pack.

Fan site Seriously! has the first word on the DLC pack which will add all 15 campaign levels and all seven Versus levels of Serious Sam HD The First Encounter into Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter. Those maps will also have support for The Second Encounter's new gameplay modes. Pricing for the Fusion DLC pack will be $9.99 but if you already own Serious Sam HD The First Encounter you can download the DLC pack for free. There's no word yet on when the DLC will be released but the article hints that if the packs sells well more DLC content may be offered.

Interview: We chat with Croteam's co-founder about Serious Sam 3

The past year or so have seen developer Croteam come back into gamers' minds with the release of the graphically enhanced versions of the team's first two Serious Sam first person shooter games. The games, which used Croteam's third major version of its own in-house Serious Engine technology, are currently on sale for 90 percent off today only on Steam (and 75 percent off the rest of the week).

But Croteam, along with its publishing partner Devolver Digital, isn't just remaking its older games. It's also working hard on its long awaited next game in the series, Serious Sam 3, Big Download got Croteam co-founder Alen Ladavac to give us a little more info on what they have planned for "Serious" Sam Stone in his next adventure.

New Serious Sam HD video reminds us of Christmas Steam sale

While you wait for Santa Claus to show up at your house tonight, the folks at developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital want you to make sure that you know that the Serious Sam HD games (First Encounter and Second Encounter) are currently on sale via Steam for 75 percent off their already low prices. And what better way to do that than with a new video featuring not just gameplay but people running around in Santa suits. You're welcome.

In related news, it looks like the plans for the Serious Sam HD DLC release have been delayed. It was scheduled for release before Christmas but an update on Devolver Digital's Twitter page now says it will be released after the holidays.

Serious Sam HD could be getting some DLC love soon

Developer Croteam is reportedly busy working on Serious Sam 3 but apparently that's not the only thing the makers of the first person shooter franchise have been toiling with lately. A Twitter post from Serious Sam's publisher Devolver Digital states, "Rumors of Serious Sam HD Steam DLC around the office today. Maybe before Christmas..." There's no word yet on what this DLC package will contain.

In related news GoG.com has just lowered the price permanently on the original 2001 non-HD version of Serious Sam The Second Encounter. You can now purchase and download the second game in the series for just $5.99.
