Team Fortress 2 continues to offer new in-game items that serve as cross over promos for other games. In this newest case, the multiplayer shooter from Valve is offering no less than eight in-game items for the game's various characters based on Sega's upcoming historical RTS game Total War Shogun 2.

Made by community member "LaroLaro" the eight Team Fortress 2 items can be acquired by pre-ordering Total War: Shogun 2 via Steam. Team Fortress 2 players can also choose to purchase the items in the Mann Co. in-game store or you can just play the game and hope for some lucky item drops.

In related news, from now until 1 pm Eastern time today you can get Empire Total War on Steam for $7.50. You can also get the new Total War Collection Bundle, which has five games in the RTS series (Rome: Total War Gold, Medieval 2 Total War, Empire Total War, Napoleon Total War Imperial Edition and Total War: Shogun 2) for just $64.99, a 50 percent discount.

Shogun 2 developer diaries explore Japanese history

The Shogun 2 diaries have offered fascinating insights into the offices of Creative Assembly, and these two latest videos are no exception. Focusing entirely on Shogun 2, they detail a lot of the research and process that went into making it both historically realistic as well as fun. Notable thing to look for include reactions to the wood block concept art, justification for the multiplayer campaign mode, and an abiding love of the works of Akira Kurosawa. Peppered in are plenty of smaller anecdotes and musings, all of which make this diary feel like an actual diary and less of a PR tool.

Sega Dreamcast PC ports now on Steam

sega dreamcast
First announced a few weeks ago, the Steam PC game download site now has four classic Sega Dreamcast games that have been ported over to the PC much like Sega has done with a ton of its classic Sega Genesis titles.

The titles in this first release include the fast moving Sonic Adventure DX (Director's Cut), the crazy driving-arcade game Crazy Taxi, the (sort of) sports game Sega Bass Fishing, and the unique Space Channel 5 Part 2. Each game cost $8.99 but you can also get all four titles in one bundle for $29.99. We're betting even more Dreamcast games get this treatment if this inital release does well enough.

Total War Shogun 2 developer video thinks about the past

Total War Shogun 2 is one of a few PC exclusive games that are due out in March. Ahead of the historical RTS game's release, publisher Sega have released the first two videos in a series featuring several of the team members from developer The Creative Assembly discussing the game series.

In fact the first two videos are not really about Total War Shogun 2 at all. Instead the team members discuss some of the previous RTS games The Creative Assembly has made and released over the years in the Total War series. The second trailer, which you can see after the jump, continues to look back at Empire Total War along with some thoughts on the series in general. Total War Shogun is due out on March 15.

Dreamcast Collection trailer makes its way to the PC

SEGA has been releasing their old classics on the PC, but this newest release comes as a bit of a shock. Four classics from the Dreamcast are now available on the PC, and this trailer shows off all four. There's Crazy Taxi, an arcade game where you race from point to point in an open-ended city; Sonic Adventure, Sonic's first foray into 3D gaming; SEGA Bass Fishing, which attempts to make fishing actually exciting; and Space Channel 5, a highly-regarded music game. While they are hardly the games we would absolutely demand on PC , they are all fairly good., even if they look a bit dated.

Total War Shogun 2 demo available on Steam

A few weeks before its due out in stores, a playable demo of Total War: Shogun 2 is now available for download via Steam. The demo gives folks a quick slice of the upcoming historical RTS game from the development team at UK-based The Creative Assembly and publisher Sega.

The demo will allow folks to play "epic land battles and on Total War: Shogun 2's gorgeous new campaign map." It should keep folks busy before the full game ships out to stores and via download on March 15. While you are downloading the demo check out our recent hands-on impresssions of the game based on playing a late beta build.

Shogun 2 trailer gets together with other players

Continuing the thread of excellent trailers for Shogun 2, this video shows off the new and returning multiplayer features for Creative Assembly's new title. The campaign co-op returns from Empire and Napoleon, and some new features such as General customization also show up. The multiplayer also supports up to four players, so if you wish to engage in a four-sided free-for-all, you can. Shogun 2 is looking more and more excellent as it comes closer to release, and this trailer only continues it.

Sega Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition coming to stores March 15

Total War: Shogun 2 won't be the only PC game that Sega will be releasing to stores on March 15. On that same date the company will be releasing the (deep breath) Sega Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition (exhale). The retail box product will have 46 games from Sega Genesis' console days to the PC.

The full list of what games will be in the collection can be seen after the jump. It looks like most, if not all, are available as downloadable games from various PC game download sites. Pricing for the retail collection product has yet to be announced.

Total War Shogun 2 to get Steam demo next week

Total War Shogun 2 is about a month away from its release but on February 22 the general public will be able to check out a demo of the historical strategy game sequel. Publisher Sega announced today that the demo will be released via Steam on February 22.

Details on what the demo will contain are slim although the official press release states that the demo from developer The Creative Assembly will let players check out "epic land battles and on Total War: Shogun 2's gorgeous new campaign map." The final and full version of the game will be released on March 15.

Shogun 2 trailer engages in a sword duel

Shogun 2 is one of the best games when it comes to informative trailers. Almost every single trailer has given good insights into the creation of the game as well as how the mechanics work. From battle reports to producer diaries, each video manages to give us more information and keep us hooked on the progress. This trailer breaks out the glamour, however. Depicting the calm before the storming of a keep, this trailer involves what appears to be a samurai and warrior monk facing off in a champion's duel. The winner does not get to survive, though, and ends up triggering the castle's invasion.
