Section 8: Prejudice PC multiplayer beta announced

Developer Timegate Studios has announced that it will launch a PC-based multiplayer beta test for Section 8: Prejudice, the next game in the company's sci-fi first person shooter series. Folks interested in participating in the beta can sign up on the game's official web site. Sign ups require a free registration to Timegate's message boards. The beta test will begin later this fall.

While details of what will be in the beta have yet to be revealed, the press release announcing the beta test stated that Section 8 Prejudice will be using Microsoft's Games For Windows Live service for "streamlined matchmaking and improved server browsing." The full game is due out in early 2011.

Section 8 PC gets downloadable map pack

In a development that apparently not even the game's own PR people were aware of, Timegate Studios has released a new map pack for the PC version of their sci-fi shooter Section 8. The three level Seek and Destroy map pack contains Devil's Backbone (set in a geothermal plant), Hornet's Nest (on a desert location) and Azure Basin (overlooking a hydroelectric dam). The maps can be used in both multiplayer and Instant Action mods. The map pack also adds 10 new Games For Windows Live achievements.

Now for the bad news; this map pack isn't free. If you have the game you will have to fork over 560 Microsoft Points (about $7) to download the map pack via Games For Windows Live.
